Big Jim is flying. It's not over yet, but he's prepared with and demonstrating a level of maturity that I wouldn't have thought was possible three years ago (even as his biggest fanboy).
There's still a long way to go, but this really is, a different Jim Walmsley.
It’s about to get really exciting. Jim in the lead as of 4min ago at 102k. The next 28km are downhill, and there has never been a downhill runner in history as good as Kilian. Still, this race really matters at 150k when they hit another steep, long climb before the descent to the finish. Don’t want to overrun the long down before the plenty of climb left

Walmsley is also an exceptional downhill runner (but agreed Killian is the best). Will still be decided on the climbs.

Jim is long/tall (like me) and excels on medium angle descents, which this one is. Kilian rules on steep, techy descents, which this one is not.. The later descents (into Trient, etc...) are better Kilian terrain.
People talk about his downhill ability, but it doesn't really matter at mile 80. No one is flying down technical terrain that late in a race. Jim's lead looks to be at least 15 minutes now and this section is pretty candy ass by UTMB standards.
