Nic’s athletes know that he is a horrible person with lots of skeletons in his closet. They don’t defend him because they don’t like him either. They stay because unfortunately there aren’t many other coaching options and certainly no options if you’re looking for a training group.
As for people claiming he’s a great agent, I’d suspect Stewy is the only one making a decent amount of money but that is partly because he is raced to death. The rest would be on gear and maybe bonuses to make it appear like Nic is some magic agent.
Bideau is an expert at squeezing money out of his athletes. He has rental units around the world (eg London) and has his athletes stay at them, paying him, rather than cheaper options (not owned by him). This is not an insignificant expense since many of his athletes are on bare bones contracts (like $20,000usd a year or less). If you don't follow the team itinerary to try cut corners financially you get grief. Everyone knows he will favour putting you in the race that favours him financially rather than what you need as an opportunity to run well. Eg Diamond League A will give appearance fee to a different NB athlete, or let in more NB athletes than DL B, so even though an athlete might have a better shot at a good time in DL B, he enters everyone into DL A as better for his 15% cut.
So yeah, I'm not surprised he has current athletes not tripping over themselves to defend him. He has great connections in Australia and globally so they suck it up for the sake of their short careers.
Still can't believe WA haven't made it so that agents can't coach their own athletes. It's a massive conflict of interest.
"So yeah, I'm not surprised he has current athletes not tripping over themselves to defend him"
So why are wronged former athletes not tripping over themselves to attack him?
I would say the current athletes are smart to keep quiet and not get involved, whatever their reasons are. Also, the theory that them keeping quiet is a sign that they agree with all the derogatory things being said about Bideau is exactly that, a theory.
Because he probably put a clause in their contracts threatening to sue them if they said anything about him. That's his usual form, threatening to sue.

At least you put "probably", which can probably be interpreted as didn't/hasn't.
Any evidence for "his usual form, threatening to sue"?, and if you have and it was legitimate, what's the problem with that?
As mentioned earlier in this thread, such is Bideau’s influence nationally and abroad it is extremely difficult to ‘make it’ as an Australian distance runner without his support. To the point you will be virtually 'black-listed' if you decline his support.
What you really need to think about when talking about nic and abbeys puma deal is how if she accepted she would of been treated fairly cause it would of given that 15% world champs bonus. Any chance nic can make money he’s gonna take it right?
NB would get a cut from GG receiving a bonus for making WC but it gets worse. Caldwell had a contract with Puma ready to be signed. Puma then withdraw it at the last minute in favour of signing with GG that was pushed by NB (more commission for NB). Talk about the Mafia in action. This crap will only end if Caldwell lodgeds a massive claim for damages in the Courts, as opposed to AA's Kangaroo Court. Anyone care to predict the amount of damages.
For me there are two clear conflicts of interest here:
There's an undeniable financial conflict of interest as NB gets a personal bonus through GG being selected as a Puma athlete.
There's also absolutely indirect personal conflict of interest in choosing a non-NB runner over an NB one. AA coming out with a statement suggesting NB doesn't have an influence on selection as an event lead is an insult to the intelligence of those within the sport. I think this isn't necessarily a straight forward problem to manage as it is difficult to become a good event group lead without an intimate knowledge of how the event works and an understanding of the Australian athletics landscape. This would require development of personal relationships on the way which may induce bias, unintended or otherwise.
Given that funding is already spread pretty thin with AA, acquiring experts from other countries without as strong personal domestic connections may not be financially feasible. What examples are there internationally of these roles being managed by administrators without a background in the sport? Are there examples of where coach/agent/selector-in-ones have worked out well in the past?
As a grossly taxpayer-funded organisation Athletics Australia's primary purpose should be to serve the people of the sport as a whole, as opposed to looking after NB and his property portfolio. Not selecting an athlete who has run a qualifier and won the respective trial is unprecedented(?) in Australian athletics - Abbey's potential upside and her season's head-to-head record against GG on top of this should trump GG's faster time for the qualifying period.
If this fiasco were to have occurred in swimming, chances are there would be at least some media coverage. Perhaps NB still has some influence with the journalism team over at News Corp from his time working there...
Lol, seems things are now getting in to the realms of phantasmagorical conspiracy theories. At least Hitler hasn't been mentioned yet, just the Mafia amongst others/things.

Len Johnson glossing over the situation. Johnson is for Bideau, as what Ken Goe is for Salazar. A Glenhuntly old boy, who knows too well of his antics over the years. What he chooses to omit, is more important than what he includes.
Looked at the entry list on WA website. Caldwell is on it, along with the other 3 Aussies selected.
What does this mean? Is the list just a prelim, submitted before AA decided appeal? Or could Caldwell have appealed to CAS & final entry list pending outcome?
Also the best and most upto date guide on who’s in and out of quota spots inside athletics.
blog post from early July after the window closed and athletes were withdrawn also acknowledge her as being in a quota position and it being a choice between GG and her for the Olympics.
