Fun race. Wonder what happened to Leo. Splits were a mess the whole time. With an actual pacer Lex and Colin easily run sub 8:25.
It’s cool to see the twins are so interchangeable. I hate to see one have an off day, but it really shows how honest their efforts are. It looked like Leo really had to sprint out the first 100 just to find his pack. The whole first lap was a real sh!t show tbh.
Shouldn’t be really, it’s hard getting pacing right. There’s a reason almost all of these new records aren’t being set in high-school only fields (or at least sans pacers). They went out 2-3 seconds too hard at 400 and from there clicking off 64s was gonna be darn near impossible.
I wasn't expecting them to beat LV record. I thought Colin would be a little closer to 8:30 and maybe scare it given he ran 8:33 earlier and NPs top 4 all under 8:45 if not 8:40.
Look at it this way depending on the progression of the athlete some 8:59 3200m guys as a senior by the time they r Junior or senior their 3200m pace is now there 10000m pace
I agree. It feels odd to criticize anything they do as they are amazing, but I think your disappointment is justified.

Leo Young ran 4:00 in the full mile in his last race. He'd already run 8:39 in his last 3200. I expected him to crush Lex Young today. Instead, Lex Young has the lead on Colin Sahlman on the last lap and Leo Young doesn't break 9:00?
On February 19th, Colin Sahlman ran 8:33.32 and beat Lex Young by 10 seconds. Tonight, he ran slower 8:34.99 and had to dig deep to beat him.
It was a good race for Lex Young given his recent form.
But if you had told me before the race that Lex will run 8:35, I would have said, "Ok Leo runs 8:29 and Colin runs 8:25."
Agreed, but the race was a mess as soon as they went out in 60.5. This seems to be NP’s “weakness” and we saw it before in the 4x1600. I honestly appreciate their willingness to go for it and take it out hot from the gun, but when the first two splits are 60.5 followed by a 67, you know it’s gonna be a mess.

Colin was a bit off the pace at 400 a 62 to start shouldn't have zapped that much out of his legs
