Starlipper actually looked pretty good. Man she burned up so much energy going wide. What was she thinking? Never seen a runner run that wide in a race. Definitely a rust buster. Tuohy looked good. She's definitely becoming a seasoned veteran. Very tactical. Didn't let the pushing and shoving, and cursing, get to her.

tuohy's newly developed kick and her confidence in it, amazes me!! think about it .. she never had this fast of a kick, ever... i could clearly remember how these pros and meyer dusted tuohy last year in 1500m, but now shes dusting them.. although 4:12 isnt the fastest, its still a fast opener and a smart one

if you watch tuohy's last four races, acc 5k,ncaa 5k, ncaa 3k, and this race.. its as if shes a completely different runner now, so so different from even just 4 months ago in boston opener
she has developed a really really good kick, she is smarter on track now, and she has more patience, more trust and belief in herself... and by the looks of it, having so much fun!

Didn’t she have an injury all winter?? How did she develop this kick?!
I think 4:23 is actually pretty promising for starliper after all this time away. Especially hearing she was running super wide. I think she’ll get that down this season and next year be another force to be reckoned with
Actually her coach was really good and told her every practice to slow down... He would set realistic pacing and tell her not to run faster than that...
But what can he do for races he can not get out there and block her from running fast
It's just what athletes want to do they want to see how fast they can run...
I think a lot of the chasing records was crazy as a lot of those runners ended up injured or almost all of them
I agree that he was a good coach, but don't agree that a coach can't get his runners to run smarter over the course of four years. We all have runners who pace themselves badly. I get mine to improve their pacing by convincing them that they'll run faster. Other coaches have different methods. But I'd say it's the exception to see great runners pacing as consistently badly as Tuohy did in high school.

Here at the meet, and so many NC State runners did not finish their races because of being sick this week. Starliper was coughing up a lung after the race and Henes held her out of pacing one of the 5k heats. She probably should have been held out of the race if she was so sick, but she probably just wanted to get that first race out of the way. Hays is on crutches in the infield. Hopefully Chmiel and Hays don’t miss the whole outdoor season, and their injuries are minor. And hopefully half the team does not have Covid and miss a bunch of training. Hard to watch! But Tuohy and Bush looked great!!!!!

She said she had something minor from XC, then got flu and covid around the 1st of the year so she missed a lot of time. But no reported significant injury.

she was dealing w minor injury (she almost said what it was in an interview but was able to stop herself from saying so)
so she basically kept it secret because she didnt want it to stop her training and wanted to run all meets and help the team, she was still fit after the xc season so she ran in boston opener and broke the american u20 3k record... after boston, the coaching staff shut her training down, and then she got the flu and got covid, took a long time off from training (but i doubt she wasn't running, im sure she was running in her hometown.. shes katelyn tuohy, not running for her is like not breathing) ... she returned to high level training only in mid-february (flotrack guys shared coz they were there when tuohy first started the hard work out after her long break)
she didnt have this kick in winter, and only has a 35-36s kick in that 3k u20 record in december 4th, i think the reason why she now has this kick is a different mentality and a full year of build up and a much fitter body, and really hard workouts! and who knows what she works on whenever shes not in nc state facility! as long as i know, she works extremely hard even without someone watching her! evident from the results and her improvements!
Tuohy ignored some of the constraints her H.S. coach tried to put on her, like weekly mileage and pace during workouts. It's in the SI article and the Flotrack and Toad videos.
Her pacing problem and lack of kick was simply because she always ran away from everyone in H.S.
katelyn tuohy improved her last 400 from 1:08 to 1:04, 4 seconds in a 1500m is a lot, and its not even 4 seconds whole 1500m time improvement, that 4 seconds is just her improvement on the last lap (finishing kick speed only) ... i wonder if theres a 1500m event in penn relays and if shes going to run there with some of the best competition (more pros) ... with faster pace+ close finish, i want to see tuohy's best all-out 1500m time ... but maybe thats a bad idea in this outdoor season, they say you don't go all out unless its regionals and nationals..
Sam Bush didn't even look tired after running 1540... Steelman and Shaw looked pretty winded... I think Sam Bush could get top 10 next year at Cross country... Rauber okay running 429...

sam is consistently improving, lets not forget she finished better than chmiel in the 3k last week... steelman is coming off an achilles surgery, the fact that shes running sub 15 already is beyond crazy!! also i dont know whats happening w savannah shaw, she seems not motivated to run as much as before unlike chmiel, steelman, tuohy and bush whos always been so eager to race every week .. im still waiting for savannah to step up ... at this point, anna vess is making more progress and will probably be part of the xc team this year
anna vess keeps on improving her times, coach henes hugged her happily !
