I would say I’m pretty/very liberal and I think this is ridiculous. Blaming all libs for a fringe group of far lefts means it’s ok for me to call you a white supremacist because more folks on right who are like that than there are folks on left who think this swimmer winning gold is sane.
No. You do not get to do this.
Fringe far right white supremacists have not taken over the laws and statues of this country any more with blatantly white supremacist laws. They have not taken over the education system and indocrinated children into thinking whites are the master race.
The far left however has done this. Sports leagues are now allowing trans personal to compete against natural women. They are dictating which pronouns we can say. They are allowing men to use female bathrooms (and then covering up assault that occurs in them).
No, you don't get to to stand by and claim "it's not REAL left that supports this, just the fringe group!" This is the platform of the party. You have taken over and shoved this down our throats and done nothing to stop it. Own it!
Dude, go read about Lia Thomas on Reddit. That place is liberal as hell and those discussions look like this discussion with like 90% of people agreeing she shouldn’t compete. This isn’t going to last. Also if we’re only dividing the world into the right and the left you’re going to have to accept that not everyone believes every thing on “their side”. I’m sure that goes for you too.
I don’t blame Thomas for competing. She will forever be in the record books as an NCAA champion. I do think this will put more pressure on the NCAA. A mediocre Ivy League former male swimmer beat the best females in the country. The best biological female just missed out on a championship. It’s not just a theoretical argument anymore. I have no ill will against Thomas, but this woke movement is cannibalizing itself. Life is not fair, and when you try to cater to one group, you may create an unfair playing field for another group.
Oh, I'm pro free speech. You're allowed to speak whatever ridiculous, unscientific, bigoted thing you want. I, in turn, have the free speech to call you out on it. Conservatives seem to think "free speech" means "no one is allowed to tell me I'm wrong." But then again, they're pretty dumb.
I don't care about her hormone levels. She's a woman. You even refer to her using female pronouns (even though you sometimes put quotation marks around them. Is there a reason for this?). So we seem to agree that she is a woman.
You’re a f*** psycho.
LOL- ya think?!
Kind of puts all his/her/their other opinions in perspective now, doesn’t it? None of them should be taken seriously or “considered a rational thought.”
I only popped on this thread because a friend of mine sent me this link. Hilarious…

The comments in response to a WAPO article about Thomas were 100% negative. The belief that someone would be cancelled for publicly being apposed to her participation is nonsense.
Actually the far right has consistently passed racist laws and tried to rewrite history books. Remember all that lost cause crap? Or Texas description of the slave trade? Why can't you just accept you like supporting racists?
tell me one racist law on the books right now in america.
Across the country law enforcement selectively targets Black and brown people for stops, arrests, prosecution, and imprisonment at wildly disproportionate rates.
A federal judge in Nevada ruled for the first time last week that a longstanding law that makes it a felony to reenter the United States after deportation is unconstitutional because it’s explicitly racist in its origins.
Ain’t no reason in trying to act all smart like when a simple google search suffices. Most housing/zoning regulations are inherently racist. Most towns have a zone where they only allow single family homes, and minimum lot sizes. Guess who is excluded from those zones? I’ll let you answer that yourself.
I cannot believe you are trying to argue that there aint a single racist law in this country. Your viewpoint isn’t just wrong, it’s stupid. You ever been to school? You ever read a history book? Do you know what happened in this country not even 60 years ago? Do you know what continues to happen in this country today? Obviously not.
I'm always a little surprised by the vitriol on these LetsRun threads.
As another poster has said, it's not hard to imagine that some people feel they were born in the wrong body (i.e. the wrong sex). If identifying as the opposite gender and transitioning (as much as is medically possible) makes them feel better and have an improved quality of life, why should we care?
With that said, we can acknowledge that, as of 2022, transgender women seem to maintain a competitive advantage across a number of sports even after transitioning. As a result, they should not compete under the sphere of women's sports.
I’m a huge advocate for women’s sports and trans rights, but the situation that Lia Thomas has created threatens the equity for both women’s sports and trans people.
For the women, those who were biologically born female will start aiming for second place and unfortunately due to their natural hormones, can’t switch to the men’s events and become national champions.
For trans people, they take on a huge journey that involves taking hormones and undergoing reassignment surgery to become the gender that they feel they truly are.
Lia has under minded these two situations and from my perspective, if she truly feels that she is female, she needs to focus on that aspect of her journey rather than sport. Being a female athlete requires being conscientious and respectful of how hard women have worked to achieve equity in sport. If Thomas has this respect, she wouldn’t have chosen to compete knowing that going from middle of the pack in the men’s races to a national champion who beat Olympic medalists in the women’s race simply isn’t just.

The housing laws aren't racist. It isn't the law's fault that specific groups don't put themselves in places financially to afford to live places.
What is preventing blacks from financially affording better housing then?
Perhaps you should ask black people who live in the "racist" neighborhoods. Conversely, what about poor white people who can't afford "racist" single family housing?

Perhaps you should look at what percent of blacks live below the poverty line compared to whites. Let me ask again, if systemic racism doesn’t exist, why are blacks not able to financially afford better living situations?

A history of poor decision and repeated cycles of not valuing education maybe?
I suspect my African American dentist is able to afford a home in a "racist" city that only allows single family housing and large lots
I prefer living in areas that are owner occupied as opposed to renters, all single family, and have decent sized lots. I don't care what race my neighbors in those neighborhoods are.

Eh, buddy, I wouldn't make this argument from the right. I'm conservative enough, but the GOP literally declined to put out a 2020 platform and just said "whatever Donald Trump wants, we support that." The right doesn't have "white supremacy in its platform" only in the sense that it doesn't have anything in its platform at all; if Trump wanted white supremacy, they've stated in advance that they support it in that case. Any argument about the quality of the left's platform has to reckon with the fact that the right blindly capitulated to its savior-hero Trump, with all his patently obvious shortcomings as a leader and human being.
It's also not good debating to demand people defend the views of other people that they themselves do not share, no matter how prevalent. On the trans-in-sports issue, you're gonna have to stick to the facts and arguments of the issue, you aren't going to be taken seriously if you insist that the other poster being on the left disqualifies him from participating, because otherwise, we on the right have to answer questions about why our leaders basically handed Trump their balls in a wrapped-up package. I personally didn't do that, so I shouldn't have to answer the question. If the liberal poster does not support transwomen in women's sports, that poster is not under any obligation to tell you why people who agree with him on other issues DO support transwomen in sports. Ask them, not a fellow liberal who disagrees. It isn't his problem.
