Editor's note on 7/1/2024- This 3-year-old thread is getting a lot of clicks as lots of people are googling Nikki Hiltz after NBC published an article "Transgender runner Nikki Hiltz is headed to the Paris Olympics" on her making the Olympic team. The article did not explain that Hiltz's is a biological female. Hiltz also is also not on testosterone as World Athletics forbids that.

Also, I agree that it's the most accepting time in history for people's sexual preferences but that still does not mean it's OK. I'd say it's not OK in most places to be honest with you.
When you have had people try to set your friend's hair on fire, been asked to leave a pub because your partner is female, been screamed/shouted at in the street,. had a taxi driver ask you intimate questions about sex and so on to try to work out why he has picked you up from the place you were at, have him ask you really revolting things, had to come out in a way to every new workplace you go to with some pretty bad reactions, had to hide it from your family, had to hide it from your friends in primary school, had to hide it all through high school, had to hide it from your athletics club, seen a guy, your best friend, bullied throughout the entirety of high school (some pretty bad, emotional, physical), not been able to put any achievements (like sitting on a board) on your CV because it was a gay thing, STILL have problems in the town where you live i.e. could not go there with anyone who is visibly different, not able to hold hands, I would never kiss in public but definitely no to that whereas most other people don't give that a second though, but more to the point... every single encounter you have with a 'new' person, whether that be a physio, some tradesperson, someone in a shop who is chatting and asking questions... you have to assess whether you have to omit, lie, or tell the truth, and what their reaction might be... why ANYONE would choose this I don't know, because I would choose to be straight. Why wouldn't you? Going through life would be massively easier, it depends on where you live for sure, but for example gay women in Saudi Arabia/Dubai? Gay people all around the world? It is illegal in a lot of places (

) ... it's not some perfect utopia or dream world, far from it... so do I agree with her posting publicly? I think it's up to her but I can see why. And while people are 'sick' or hearing about it, some people are 'sick' of having to live in a way that hides who they are. and 'sick' of the consequences of behaving normally (e.g. being told to stop holding hands in a local pub).

My opinion is I don't care. Love whoever you want. Be whatever you want. I just don't think a live stream social media release and multi page post on a running forum is really necessary or productive.
