You guys do realize Nike expects their athletes to post on Instagram right? That is partially how they advertise. I would not be surprised in the slightest if Centro has a clause in his contract about posting on Instagram

You really have 3 options here...
1) You ignore it (because who cares, you are one of the all-time greats for your nation and one of only a handful of men to win the Olympic 1500)
2) You congratulate the guy make some fun out of it and maybe self-deprecate a little and really endear yourself to the average track fan
3) You get ultra-defensive, puff your chest out and let a college kid get you all emotional and your cortisol levels through the roof.
So easy to come out of this looking well and instead you come out of it looking like a tw@t.

Nah, you don’t flex on nobodies as an Olympic champ unless you are pathetic.
What does this have to do with anything? People can talk how they want to talk. It might be cringey but that’s their choice. Also, beefing happens in all the mainstream sports so it’s kinda cool to see it now. We have to have different characters so that things get interesting and more people will want to follow the sport.

Carter Christian is a clout chasing c*ck. Congrats you walked on a team. Happens everyday and people become far more successful. Centro is an American hero. OLYMPIC CHAMP. The guy is in a rut with training and he’s being chirped by little pissant kids from his alma mater. Give the guy a break. F these kids.
Seeing all these comments about Centro(whether good or bad) make me realize how popular he is with the average person who is interested in distance running. He has an olympic gold medal in the most popular middle distance/distance event. Centro has honestly influenced so many people. Even though he gets flustered I could see where he's coming from. He's the most accomplished miler in American history and people are constantly going after him because they're either insecure or they're looking for clout. He got his clout from his actual accomplishments on the track. I wish I could meet him one day.

Do you even follow this guy on instagram? I don't know Carter personally but I have followed him for a while. He barely posts, I think to call him a "clout chasing c*ck" is a bit harsh - he's not in the same league as some other NCAA runners.
This seems like way more of an attention play from Centro. The guy took a chunk of time out of his day to research carter's times. Why should Christman being on oregon or his pr's matter at all? The only reason he mentioned them at all was to be petty, classic ad hominem. If some sunday league player chirped Ronaldo, you really think he would look up the guy's soccer stats and write a paragraph back?
Imagine being an olympic gold medalist and spending the time to look up current college runners should they ever even mention you. Just such a poor look from Centro, how did this man really not have anything better to do on his valentines. Absolute BETA move
This really exposes how boring professional runners can be, the fact that a walk on at oregon wrote 2 words and everyone has flipped their sh*t this weekend because of it. What a joke.
As someone who gets triggered sometimes past the points of even bombastic or explosive, I understand Centro here.
Now,I am a nobody from nowhere who won't be relevant, but that's partially my point in posting.
Many in the running community that SHOULD have supported and cheered for Matt Centrowitz's gold medal diminished his glory by pedantically evaluating the lap times, tactics and overall race time.
I suppose that Centro feels put off that he is a laughingstock here and even among internationally unproven college athletes.
Prefontaine took fourth in the Olympics yet everyone still worships Pre...especially in Eugene. Centro isn't even getting the respect he has earned in Eugene!
People have to be careful here. If you ever read the story about "Meteor" and how years later, people didn't even believe she had been an international athlete, then you may understand what the running community is doing to Centro and his legacy.
