I lean on Jack returning back to Portland as a loss in his own personal development. As with any new position, there are going to be issues that one would learn after they walk into the role. Issues ranging from major (funding, university support toward program, shifty boss) and then minor (regrettable scholar athlete signings, portal, redshirts). Maybe wasn't ready to handle the decision making.
It takes a level of maturity to assess a program and create a longer term vision & plan. The short term was probably ugly. * Careful what you wish for, you might just get it.
