The inflation was due to three main things, listed in order of importance:
1) Pent up demand for goods and services as the result of the pandemic.
2) Supply chain issues as a result of the pandemie.
3) Companies gouging customers with higher prices than necessary and for longer than necessary post pandemic.
Regarding the low employment rate, I called that 15 years ago as we would see Baby Boomers retire in droves AND Americans weren't having enough babies to replace them. When you add in the pandemic and Trump's policies that BOTH kept necessary migrants from coming here to work, that caused that super low unemployment rate. Good for workers, but ironically not as good for companies as they had to pay more for the available workers.
