I agree completely. It's weird how these job discussions work. It starts off as people posting available positions then it turns into people complaining about who got what job. To be honest, most coaching resumes look the same. I have this many all conference, this many national qualifiers, and this many school record holders and if you've coached for over 5 years and have a heart beat you probably have 3 or 4 of a combination of those things

Any idea why Washington State's taking their time with their assistant coach hires?
Word on the wheat fields are that Matt McGee (jumps/vault) is the only one of the former staff retained, and that almost all of Idaho's coaching staff is making the eight-mile trek to Pullman.
If that's true, all I gotta say is that the Pac-12 ain't no WAC. The Cougs will continue to regress until Moos realizes that being cheap doesn't pay.
Moos could care less about wsu track and field. Football/Basketball is his baby. He is a former football player at wsu... THAT is the problem... Doesn't know anything about track and field and could care less obviously.

The biggest problem is that most track coaches working in NCAA, high school and clubs here are not properly trained for the job they do. Most of them have degrees in something other than sports. Without basic knowledge of their trade, they work from gut or with minimal tools. It takes good 10 years to figure out on your own how to develop an athlete (if you really want to). I attended those USATF and USTFCCCA clinics: they pack a 4 year college degree material in a week. They give you just basic information, a good starting point, nothing more.
Coaching jobs in USA became more more political than it should have. In most countries (including 3rd world countries) you need a least a Bachelor's degree to pursue this profession while here it really doesn't matter what your education background is as long as you know someone very insecure that will hire you just because he/she wants your loyalty. Speaking from experience: I have worked for the past 10 years at a top tier school and none of my peers give a damn about the physiology, psychology, training methods, etc. Keeping their job was No. 1 priority, working their network No. 2, not coaching.
Equal opportunity employment simply does not exist, it's just someone's political agenda judging by how someone's being hired.
Interesting take. But not always accurate. I have personally been passed over for two jobs by less qualified candidates after being the unanimous recommendation of the hiring committee. And it's not even close on how much more experience and accomplishments I had over the hired candidates. The two selected simply had something lacking in the athletic department and it's beyond my control. Sad thing is, I understand it and you just have to get over it. If you keep working and keep producing, and yes along with expanding your network, you'll move up and get the job you deserve, maybe not the one you want, but the one you deserve at that time in your career.
PS- both hires over me were fired within 3 years. So yeah, that makes me feel a little better.

Your job is to figure out the best way to keep your boss happy. Period.

I'm heard the new coaching staff will be announced on Tuesday.
Hadsell to Manhattan College. You heard it here first. He will coach and juggle his acting career around it. If he has learned his lessons and cleaned up his act it is a good move for manhattan. If he is still acting like a 25 year old bachelor then it will be a disaster.
