I dunno. I don't see him running 14:28 for the Hayward High 3-mi like Sean did but Callum is a strength-based miler (solid endurance but never Lucas/Sean level, but instead a big kick, like Arrin and Miles). Sean kinda underperformed at 5k, and with modern times just being faster I think Callum could've been dragged to something fast at D4 states. I'd expect something in the sub 15:10s based on his TCAL champs performance where he put in race-predictor effort for states, but with Sean being 15:08.8 that's really really close so we'll never know 🫠
I really hope the Albany long-distance dynasty since 2021 continues past this year. I hope there is a possibility.
lol whats with all the glaze?? what dynasty? albanys best runners ever getting beat at state back to back to back?
Here is the 20 team "power merge" of the teams that qualified for state, and assuming all the runners run at the level of their best official Speed Rating. On paper the battle for 3rd is much closer than battle for 1st and 2nd, but the state meet usually brings out some great season best performances, and unfortunately some bad ones, so it could end up looking very different.

Don’t think there’s been any other random small D4 school with otherwise no history of running culture routinely putting someone in the top 3 at states since 2021. It’s a very mini dynasty lmao, but a long way from the irrelevance that was scoring about 500 points at NCS champs to place 19/20 teams in 2013. Cathedral had a one-guy run for two years. Santa Cruz is about to have another with Eli. But there’s been no other team putting consistently different people up there. Callum was supposed to be the 3rd for Albany and put it to 4 whole years now.
Most other schools don’t really have a person to send up there to get beat at states 😉 I mean, “back to back to back”, even getting beat, gets at the key aspect of what we meant.
PS on a side note still think Lucas should’ve won on Perez’s off day last states, but he’s a purist who never donned vaporflies and .2s difference could very well have been the $30 waffle flats vs supershoes
PPS the dynasty is totally dead after this year tho too so it was a good run while it lasted, Albany back outside of the top 10 at NCS after this 🫠

Can you run one for girls, please?
Sorry, I have not been tracking the girls this year. I manually do all work to track all the runners, and that's a lot of time. I did it last year for the girls as well, but I didn't have the time this year.
are they going to. sell off the rights to the california state meet again this year? (we had zero coverage last year because of this). Who makes these decisions and sells our state meet coverage and doesn't allow HDrunners or Po man to film?

It’s fine, Cohen ended up beating Perez at NXN anyway. For a second, I thought he was gonna win NXN when he was leading at the 2K split mark!

CIF has a series of deals with Milesplit. Same thing with the state meet and the vast majority of any meets in the central section.

bruh perez is a two time state champ, thats going to be remembered not whatever place cohen got at nxn or that he was leading at the 2k😭
Yeah, I heard their top runner sprained his ankle from a fall the Monday or Tuesday before CIF finals. Amazing that he was even able to run. This shows how tough this team is. They’ve come a long way.
2 4:24 transfers not being good enough to run for them is itself surprising. Sure, those two weren’t the reason they didn’t qualify to state, but shouldn’t they have been able to help? They had a 7 run 17:19 at Clovis, and 2 4:24 transfers who weren’t good enough to run?

I don’t know of any 4:24 transfers at ML King. The Watkins transfers ran a 4:34 and 4:35 last spring when they ran for Rancho Cucamonga

XC is all about place so your national rank is essentially your placement at the national races. Parra was the fastest California because he finished 8th.
Cohen would’ve never beaten Perez. From people who are on his team, have told me and my team that he gladly trolled at the end with his W sign because he knew he was gonna win once there was 200ms left. No need for kick. They didn’t send one guy last 2 years either. It was 2. They sent Emmanuel Hernandez as well but he had lots of injuries, never being able to reach his potential (15:13 Clovis guy as Jr.) This year they’re sending some new guy Omar Fabila who’s ran for a year according to his stats finishing 8th at ss finals, so we’ll see. Dynasty is Saint Francis.
I think we’re also forgetting to note Ian Hansen. Atleast in track, Ian Hansen was right up there with Parker Stickney and Owen Franck. We didn’t even see Hansen for this whole season (or at least not in the way his track results showed us), but he won league and was #1 for Mira Costa. I want to see how Ian Hansen will perform in xc- will he come out of nowhere like Franck or is he going to be a lil inconsistent?
He didn’t run at sections. No idea if he will run at state or not
Really great showing for Woodbridge, their boys seemed to fall apart in a few past races but they seemed to have a good comeback. Most notably, inban kathiravan, their 3rd runner, was their 5th runner at Mt sac in 16:57, which is definitely much worse than what his pr's suggest.
Mira Costa and redondo were pretty tight here, good front pack by Mira Costa to beat it out. Both teams looked really strong, but I'm concerned about redondo's Adam divinity since he really hasn't been in the same shape as his junior season. If he can get into that shape again, I think redondo may be able to beat Mira Costa in the future.
Amazing that Redondo Union made state even though Divinity was only their 7th man at sections
I think Maximo Zavaleta should be more in the conversation for possible NXN individuals. He has the strongest argument to chalk up his Clovis performance to just a "bad race" since he has the 3rd fastest 3200m behind Pretre (who might qualify with his team) and Noonan (who is a wildcard) as well as because of the fact that he had the fastest time out of any Californian at the Woodbridge Invitational.
Taken from a different post. This looks like the top based on speed ratings. If you add Maximo Zavaleta 186 and others, it looks like it is going to be a major battle to see which 5 come out on top.
Redondo Union’s varsity went from “all seniors” at the beginning of the season to 2 freshmen and 2 juniors in their top 5 at sections, where the team was led by a freshmen. At the state meet we don’t expect them to contend for an NXN spot this year or anything like that, but it sounds like they have a group to build on and have a bright future.
