He inherited that team that went to Nationals. And he had a long time XC coach under him, that go them there. Since going to Smith, they have slowly gone downhill in both xc and track.
I know personally that one of the very best d3 coaches applied for the job and didn't get a call. I think they knew exactly who they were looking for.
Ivy League coaches and athletic directors have been making idiotic hires for decades. The Dartmouth debacle over the past the few years has been a massive embarrassment solely because of hiring completely unqualified and incompetent coaches.
Brown has been equally pathetic and their current coaching staff is extremely underwhelming.
Cornell hired Rojo with no real coaching experience. Henderson of Cornell was a director of operations at Princeton (not allowed to actually coach), was the 4th distance coach at William and Mary literally a stopwatch holder under Solinski, coached as an assistant for a couple years at Cornell then got promoted to head women's cross country and track coach.
Despite being prestigious universities, the majority of ivy League coaches are the opposite of impressive. Why haven't they hired a legendary D3 Coach like Van Allen? Or stolen a good Coach from the patriot League like Etters?
It's a myth that you need to have experience at a strong academic school to be prepared to coach at an Ivy League. Power 5 coaches are literally signing athletes from Africa that don't have any money, computers, or internet. If they can do that, they can easily figure out how to find smart recruits too.
In most cases believe it or not, a school does NOT want the most qualified coach. They want something or someone who is easy a babysitter for athletes or check a minority box
Power5s are the only exception to this. But also not always. For years we have talked about this here. You cannot bet on your merit or experience to land a job that just simply isn’t enough

I completely agree. Unfortunately there is no way to say this without sounding jaded. But...
I know that I have interviewed and made the final cut of 3 at multiple universities and lost out on the job by someone who had zero coaching experience, only grad assistant experience, and been fired for inappropriate behavior applicants. What those applicants had in common was that they were a specific gender and ethnicity that the athletic staff was looking for. My resume consists of 20 years of coaching at D1,D2, D3 and a history of success.
Having not been selected, it hurt mentally because I know that I was the best candidate, and I have always second guessed what I was putting out there in the interviews. But having gone through it enough times, I see that there are other things going on that I am not in control of.

Sounded jaded to me is a moot point. It is what it is and I also agree with him. I would imagine it’s even worse with football or basketball. Imagine nick Saban sleeps with a college cheerleader or something weird like that. You think he won’t get another chance to coach hahaha.
I used nick saban as he’s never done anything like that at least that we know of. But imagine it happens, you can’t sit here and tell me they will not be hired somewhere else.

No matter how good of a job or candidate you may be/do. If they are looking for a specific person. You are just being interviewed because the state requires more then one. IMO / experience.

Also i lost a job offer to someone that resigned their Head coaching position because of sex with an athlete.

How do you know it was a job offer? Did you only apply or did you have an offer of employment?
Georgia State Head Track coach is leaving via Twitter.
Seems to have been kind of a messy exit looking at the replies I wonder how many of that group will go into the portal. They had a decent few make regionals
