U.S. national-security leaders included me in a group chat about upcoming military strikes in Yemen. I didn't think it could be real. Then the bombs started falling.
The world found out shortly before 2 p.m. eastern time on March 15 that the United States was bombing Houthi targets across Yemen.
I, however, knew two hours before the first bombs exploded that the attack might be coming. The reason I knew this is that Pete Hegseth, the secretary of defense, had texted me the war plan at 11:44 a.m. The plan included precise information about weapons packages, targets, and timing.
At any other time this would be a national outrage precipitating the resignation of all involved but for the Trump admin it's just a Monday.
Typically, I don't like to utilize "I told you so" moments, but for Hegseth I will make an exception.
Since the day that his nomination was announced, I have emphasized that he is overtly unqualified to be the Secretary of Defense.
What's really a shame is that there are some very well-qualified former Generals and Admirals in the U.S. who are Trump supporters that would have been an excellent choice. The problem is that they would actually tell him the truth about what he should or shouldn't do, much like the numerous people who were fired during the #45 administration because they wouldn't automatically kiss the ring.
In contrast, Hegseth is simply a Trump sycophant who has some military experience. He is the wrong person for the job, and this definitely won't be his last embarrassing mistake.
We are looking at the face of the Democratic Party, and an Historic moment in our Democracy. We should all take a moment to reflect on the greatness of living at this moment in time. We are watching the rise of the most powerful political party the World has ever seen, and great new allies rising to the top. Italy playing it smart. El Salvador playing it smart. Russia as well. MAGA is going nowhere. And it’s an extraordinary thing that this party rose in America.
Very inward looking view, as most Americans do, not singling you out.
To the rest of us, this is a turning point away from reliance on USA. Stronger allies are already being formed. Policies made out of malice and/or no understanding to long term global economics and politics are not going to be lasting.

If Hegseth is confirmed to be drinking, it will be over for him. No way Trump allows that behavior especially in his position, having never tasted alcohol and understanding the harm it does. Hegseth is not strong enough to overcome alcohol in his diet. Hes good and will get better and better but he’s not Rubio or Vance
