I didn’t see Hegseth at the cabinet meeting, if that’s what you’re referring to? No question he likes to party but should not be doing it in any formal setting. I think Bondi is the one to beat right now for next up. Tough call.

When there’s a tragedy, is it not our responsibility as a society to look for solutions to prevent further tragedies from occurring in the future?

Tragedy: Oklahoma City Bombing
What can we do about it? Investigate and target anti-government domestic terrorists

Tragedy: Sept 11
What can we do about? Investigate the perpetrators and planners, target them, bring them to trial or eliminate them, investigate other potential foreign terrorists and substantially modernize and increase airport security.

Tragedy: Laken Riley is killed by an illegal immigrant
What can we do about it? Prosecute the suspect and synthesize common sense solutions to limit, reduce, stop potentially violent people from entering the country, legally and illegally.

Tragedy: Sandy Hook
What can we do about it? Now it’s your turn. And the same for hundreds of mass shootings in the only country in the world where they happen so frequently.

Is it common sense and just when a politician proposes a crackdown on illegal immigrants when one murder an American citizen, or is it virtue signaling and standing on Laken Riley’s grave, shamefully attempting to use her death for political points?

I’ve told you that I want reasonable steps taken to prevent tragedies like the ones listed above. Please tell me that you would do the same.

Thanks for a clear and well written post with reasonable positions and arguments.

Unfortunately, as you stated, the standard argument of a Trump supporter is to assign an extreme position to their political opponents. Then they argue against the extreme position, ignoring the arguments the poster is actually writing.

Example "Liberals want illegal foreign gang members free to kill and rape Americans, in that order!". A totally ridiculous statement that applies to no one. The retort "Deporting foreign gang members is fine if due process and laws are followed" is completely ignored and insults follow.

My suggustion is not to engage those who try to use these strawman arguments. Post facts. They are Trump supporter kryptonite.
