I'll never understand why AD's hire track event coaches to coach XC. Hiring a track event person as the Director is totally different than hiring them as the head coach. A director can hire a distance coach and the Director can coach the events during Track. The Events person would be the Head of Track and the distance person would be the Head of XC.
If they are ONLY going to hire 1 person, then it needs to be a Distance coach, as that coach can coach XC and be a very effective Track using the distance crew. Track coaches (let's call them Track coaches for this discussion) can not be effective in XC and Track. The track teams will be great, but the XC falls apart
Utah Tech Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Ken Beazer announced on Thursday the addition of a men's track & field program ahead of the 2026-27 academic

Lakeland, from what I've heard, is planning on adding an assistant for distance. They have jack for field events, and this hire is meant to accelerate throws and jumps. They are investing in the program.
Worst possible job in the world at Western Illinois just opened up - if anyone wants to dig a hole and die there go and apply for it lol
what’s so bad about it? Genuinely curious as I have thought about applying.
People will find something wrong with any situation if it’s been bad for them. There’s people that have said working for Dave smith at Oklahoma state was very bad, does that mean no one will see being his assistant as a great opportunity? No.
It may be bad for one person and great for any other. If you want to just tag along at a winning program and make no impact then sure don’t look at a western Illinois. But if you have something to bring to the table and can turn a program and leave it better than you found then this is an opportunity to do so. Many schools have bad things about them, either deal with it or find a different career path.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. ??? Tennessee head coach and director of track & field Duane Ross has announced the hiring of Hadrien Choukroun as an assistant coach to round...
Can you actually name one successful program in track that favors XC? Even NAU couldn't win a natty at their peak, and every natty champ across all divisions is scoring in sprints and field events.

If a team only has 5 scholarships, gets 5 feet of snow per year and has no indoor facility, they are never going to be good at track. Can't fault them for trying to be competitive in XC.
I wouldn't be surprised if the entire UC Davis program is binned. Their sprint team is abysmal and Petersen didn't recruit any athlete on the men's side.
Shadrack Kiptoo is the interim replacement.
Wow this is a tragic choice even for a stopgap solution. John Mansoor, the shadow coach for the past few years at Davis is no doubt behind this hire. Shaddy will be buried in paperwork and admin and will work with a head track coach that openly acts against the distance side.
I heard all coaches, across all sports had to take 2 weeks with no pay just to keep money afloat. As much as I like to see the positive in things… that’s tough to get behind.

Davis according to some transfers in the portal is in huge financial trouble. Already took away some scholarships and budget money.
Team flew in to Azusa Pacific meet that morning, ran that day and flew back that night to save money.
Even been told that entire staff may be on chopping block with potential Davis just cutting the program with their move to the Mountain West!
Has UC Davis ever produced any truly notable athletes outside of their brief run of Big West dominance on the women’s side? All I really remember is a program plagued by eating disorder issues and the men consistently posting subpar times. From that perspective, the move by the head distance coach makes sense—leave for a less prestigious institution (academically and athletically), but get the opportunity to run the entire track program. It’s a logical step, but it also feels like the kind of “temporary home” that coaches take before a better opportunity comes along..
