A lot of record setting athletes (jump, throws, sprints and distance) have hit the portal and left already. Whatever investigation that was rumored to be taking place over issues athletes/coaches had with Givens seems like it was an AD "formality". If the rumored reports are true, then I'd expect a lot of turnover with staff and athletes once they start training. It will come back to bite ECU's track and XC program and placement at meets when they go up against UNC Charlotte with the points their distance runners bring to the table.
Sheboygan County native Sara Klemme has been named the new head coach for the Lakeland University men's and women's track & field and cross country programs, Director
East Carolina: Damar Forbes has been added as a Men’s and Women’s Assistant Track and Field / Cross Country Coach, bringing in experience in the same role at Loyola New Orleans (NAIA)
The XC/ Distance program is about to be nonexistent and terrible. All the runners should leave that program while they can. Forbes is probably a great guy and a good coach, but he is a sprints / jumps coach, as that is his area of expertise.
I personally know (via conversations with Virgil) that he does not care about the XC program. He wants to limit the numbers of the XC team, and he wants them to use the XC season to train for the 800/1500 events. The runners will get no more than $2,000 in scholarship $.
BYE BYE ECU XC
They got rid of the sprints coach also so needed a replacement in that area as well
Not that I disagree with you about the distance but they also needed to replace Cheeks and the throws coach.
Pretty solid hire honestly. Probably won't be there long
Looks like a good hire. Clear connections to Boo and Todd Lane. Letting the throws coach go was a mystery. Guy was a master of developing.
RIPON, Wis. -- Ripon College is excited to announce the hiring of Sylviann Momont as the new Head Men's and Women's Track and Field Coach. Momont comes to the Red
Buena Vista University Director of Athletics Amy Maier has announced that Ty Hoover has been hired as the university's new head women's and men's track & field coach.
Does it even take a year of experience to be ready to coach? Most athletes who paid attention to how their own program operates would be capable of coaching straight out of graduation. It doesn't take much to schedule recruiting calls/visits and fill out travel auths. It's clear most experience requirements exist so the candidate will be old enough to drive a 15-passenger van anyway.

If you are saying that an experienced runner with no coaching experience can step in and generally guide a team, then yes, that's probably true, at a very basic level.
If you are saying that an experienced runner with no coaching experience can step in and understand the individual application of training, the psychological factors of various athletes, team dynamics and culture building, different team and individual race tactics for various races, and the overall nuances and experience to build a winning team, then I would say you are very very wrong.
It's not "just running" as many outside the xc/track community believe. It is complex, strategic, varied and to truly give the best to the athletes and the program, and to truly build an elite program, requires a ton of coaching experience and talent.
But since many programs are just "coach is a buddy, we are here to have fun first", I guess I can see where a person would think that anyone with a little running experience can just show up and do it.
I wouldn't be surprised if the entire UC Davis program is binned. Their sprint team is abysmal and Petersen didn't recruit any athlete on the men's side.

It will be interesting because they are moving to the Mountain West Conference in two years. That's New Mexico and Airforce altitude schools. The AD has some decisions to make about direction.
Which potentially could have been the reason for the previous coach's leaving.
