Kinda funny how they turned it down, when Portland State was 54k.... for a D1 program. Puts in perspective how desperate Jack must have been.
I think there are SEVERAL coaches who would also take that position. I can see why he thinks he can be successful there. To say he took it because he was desperate just shows how clueless some of these posters are.

To add: he doesn't have to move at all and can live in the same city. He can recruit all the same kids that he already has relationships with and now he has a head coaching title. There are a lot of reasons for him to take this position.
Jack might be successful at Portland State. It might also be a strategic move to put HC on the resume in hopes of landing a much better gig in a year or two. It’s no different than regular people leaving a mid manager job at a solid company for a VP role at a startup. You either hit the jackpot, return to your old employer two rungs up the ladder, or get C-Suite offers forevermore because your resume merits them.
Some jobs aren't worth taking. We call them career ending jobs. Josh was a unicorn and no where close equals. zero Portland recruits would also consider PU state. That right there shows how some posters on here are clueless.
To think this job is one that will propel a career is ludicrous. Ask those in the know about the direction of the department, the cuts in funding, and so on. Not to mention the bigger issue of the crime, homelessness, drugs and utter filth that Portland continues to devolve into. If I'm a dad I'm not sending my daughter to this s hole.
