2014 College Track and Field Open Coaching Positions Discussion

first of all, he is trying to rebuild the program because the argabrights and ron davis didn\'t do a good job at all. so wick has to start with what he has. the one thing he has done that the other coaches haven\'t done is RECRUIT FAST GUYS. the fast guys that came when the other coaches were there because of pure luck.

If he is a joke, then how did he turn Emma Bates into a national class runner? Yes the BSU program has gotten better under new coaching staff. But he is young and is few years into the field. He has more to learn and has potential to do great things.

Brad, who have you recruited this year? The only guy I saw you bragging about was a 9:57 local... Admit it, you screwed up at Boise and now San Jose State is never going to break through. Just admit it.

Wow. Exactly what are you guys talking about? He had one athlete (Bates) take third at nationals (and place in two events) his last year at BSU. She moved up a whopping two places this year under new coaching. He also had a no-name female break through to 10:01 in the steeple (yes who continued to improve this year).

Seems like he did a pretty darn good job at Boise St. Given resources (which seems a bit questionable), he will probably do the same over time at San Jose.

Relax. Quit trying to throw everyone under the bus. There is a a lot of room for lots of folks to have some success.

Howard got 2nd as well under new coaching. Wick had 3 girls in the NCAA finals before he left BSU.

Honestly it seems like you dislike him or something? For the record, he recruited a 4:16 miler and a runner from Arcadia high school. It also is hard to recruit fast guys and girls to SJSU. No track program, academics are so so, and area is unsafe.

I hope that rumor of him going to Idaho is false. He's not ready to take that position.

Also from what i heard, he has found places to train that the Argabrights and Ron Davis didn't use and didn't know.

One other thing, how about the Boise guys? They were top 30 this year for the first time in a long time. I know the Boise staff currently, they aren't doing anything revolutionary they just backed off of Wick's crazy training.

Also, Emma Bates DID improve from 15:50/33:37 to 15:33/32:20 in one year. And like the "Real NCAA Recruiter" mentioned the men's team improved leaps and bounds this year with no new recruits. Wick may be a nice guy but he's a truly awful coach.

Iowa will not hire a distance coach.

Pacific University hires Brent Erickson from Morehead State

So who gets the morehead state job? Not that's it's a great spot, but it's DI and it looks like they have some decent guys coming in...

This is my last post on this unless u want to make a thread about him. for the record this isnt him. it seems like u got denied a spot by him or put u in his club team. im posting this to prove that the rumor is false.

i agree that bsu boys team got better after wick. but wick is 6 years into the field. he is young. he may lack experience coaching but he did a good job during his time at boise. do u guys expect him to be up at top already?

i remember last year in these boards someone wrote that he is a "great women's coach who needs to figure out the men's side". from what i heard hes hardworking and cares about the athletes alot. he got not much time to figure it out but he got male athletes to run fast times.

from what i heard it is true that its crazy. but it helped improved athletes. my friend on the sjsu team felt stronger and quicker through his crazy training. anyone that got injured from the training is not his fault. Its the athletes fault for not training during off season.

and what is awful? wick is 1000000000x better than Ron Davis and the Argabrights. My friend ran under Ron Davis and he didnt like it. Everyone who ran under Ron Davis and the Argabrights would prefer Wick over the other coaches.

In his first year at SJSU, he couldnt do much because of the mess Ron Davis made. After a year or 2 things will get better assuming he stays.

one final thing. do you know who is part of the sjsu recruiting class? how did he run them down?
