Blade now owns the Woodbridge and Mt. Sac high-school course records. If she takes down the Woodward Park record, she can retire her high-school legacy right there.
I personally do not know what Blade is thinking, but maybe she will wake up the morning of the State Final, and decide right then and there to “send it”.
So let’s say Rylee wakes up that morning feeling good, and goes for it, paces herself, and actually runs 8 seconds faster at Woodward Park than what she ran earlier this season, taking down the current course record. In that case, it might make sense to shut her season down…or, if she is offered entry into ChampsFootLocker (like Sadie was last year), maybe she takes the NXN week off to rest up for ChampsFootLocker.
Everyone wants to talk about the amazing Sadie Engelhardt, AS THEY SHOULD.
However, Rylee Blade is literally having the greatest seasons of any female runner in California state history. Sadie may have beaten Rylee in more head to head races over the years, but this year they're 1-1.
Blade is the only girl in California state history who has ever run under 16 minutes four times in a season, and she still holds the National Record for the fastest 3-mile time in American history. We're watching history, and NXN this year will be the last time those 2 legends face one another in high school... but they're both headed to the ACC!
Blade is very good. The State meet and post season is largely what matters.
Both have a chance to win nxn/fl.
Strange year, there is a clear top 5, but probably are 10 ladies with a chance to win nxn.
If NXN is not muddy, I pick Sadie and Rylee to go 1&2 at NXN. But if Blade goes for the Woodward Park course record, she doesn’t need to run NXN, and can rest for FL, instead.

Good points, yet Rylee can’t be all that, considering she only has a speed rating (SR) of 159, while Amber Trotter had a SR of 180, and Tuohy and Hutchins SR’s were in the 170’s. 🙄
No, the conclusion is the SR is actually NOT that useful for athlete time comparison, although attempts to do so have been done in the past, like here:
The speedrating aficionados from the Northeast take justification in their rating system when California runners bomb at NXN, all the while neglecting the fact that California runners have a much tougher racing schedule leading right up to NXN.

Blade is NOT shutting down her season after the state meet. How did you come up with such a rediculous idea?
Now that Ventura girls has lost one of their strongest runners, what are the odds that the 2nd fastest Div 2 team, St. Francis (Mountain View) could beat Ventura? I think there is a chance they can win, especially given the fact that another Ventura runner, Tiffany Sax, has only raced twice this season and not once since Clovis.
Matt, you've been singing the praises of your hometown team (Alma Mater?) all season... and although you know your stuff, the bias kinda cost you a little credibility in my eyes... BUT... I think you might be right on this one. Without Sax or True, Ventura is very beatable in D2. St. Francis might do it... and watch for Claremont to sneak in there and surprise people.

Speed ratings are biased, and so are the doofuses who ranked Bethlehem #1.
California has way more talent, training at sea level, than anywhere in the country. NXN is just silly. Racing in mud and through ponds is pathetic. Nike needs to do better to make sure that course isn't as jacked up as it was last year. I was embarassed for Nike, and sad for all the top California athletes who never had a chance, because they just ran through a 4-week gauntlet of meets just to get there. Last year, the Cali kids didn't even have the right spikes to run in that sh*t.

He is a big CCS fan. it's obvious. As are a few others in this thread.

Finally, people are waking up, and yet all of the stupid downvotes confirm there is an entrenched mob here that wants to keep trumping up the speed rating agenda!

The take about St Francis Mountain View beating Ventura without Sax/True actually isn’t bad at all.
At Clovis, all of Ventura top 6 were there except True. If Sax didn’t race, St Francis Mountain View would have beaten them by a little bit.
TRAC is Tri-River Athletic Conference. It's a league final with all of the Clovis Schools and Central. Looks like Buchanan won on a 6th runner tie breaker by Jack Beauchamp!

YES! I knew it! With a young roster and such an amazing coach, St. Francis will be the best runners ever coached! They will go down as the best California state cross country team ever! First by winning the state championship, then by qualifying and then even WINNING NXN!
And who knows from there? Come this track season, I believe the distance squad will break the state records in all 4 of their events. They will definitely all commit to run in college. All top collegiate runners for sure. Maybe qualify for the olympic trials? I don't say this about kids, I just don't, but with St. Francis, I do...
Sadie is running for the post-season championships. But the Blade may be remembered as the one with the course records.
stay tuned
It's unlikely Rylee Blade will try to break the 16:24 course record at state with NXN the following week. And even if she tried, I don't think that she could break that course record.
What sadie and Rylee need to do is run 16:45 woodward. That will still be way ahead of the field so they will qualify. than they can go harder come nxn and hopefully bring home a national title.
13:21 - Redondo Union puting on a show at cif prelims. some of their slower guys were definitely hurting though. sounds like could bounce back after such a disappointing early season. CIF Finals is tomorrow... So is NXR Southwest, South, Northeast, Southeast, and New York. Exciting day tomorrow.
