I am surprised that CBA did not try and run as a pack and call the race a tempo like they did at the group meet. The coaching staff must be taking notes on what Dan Campbell and the Lions are doing this season. Just like the Lions collapsed in the NFC Championship game, CBA collapsed at NXN. But the Lions have come back stronger this year and have been mercilessly blowing teams out. It looked like CBA wanted to destroy the field today (even if it was not necessary) to send a message to the teams out in Utah and Colorado. Maybe CBA's assistant coach is the next Ben Johnson.
this is cba’s 3rd weekend in a row of championship racing so this is very impressive that they all are able to preform consistently week after week of racing on hard courses. Going to be awesome to see them race against the sw in 2 weeks. Really hoping both sides stay healthy.
I think people underestimated how good Taylorsville was at Firman because of Herriman blowing everyone out of the water.
That would have been foolish if true. Eagle Island is such a well-challenged course that it isn't hard to look at their times and understand they were going to be very competitive for an At-Large spot.
Is Rocky still in the mix to be selected or are they basically done?
I would think they are still in the mix.
Going into this weekend, I expected the Southwest to get 2 spots and for the rest of the nation (mostly NW/MW/CA and maybe some spoilers from SO/SE) to challenge for the final 2 spots. I don't think that's really changed after today. I don't think the #3 team from the South, Southeast, Northeast or especially New York were better than Rocky Mountain, Crater or Plainsfield North. I still think those 3 are in the lead for those 2 spots with California the only region left.

Interesting. What are your thoughts on South regionals today btw? Vandegrift beat the #2 auto qualifier from their region at the texas state met, so I thought they would be ahead of RM

I would have Vandegrift very solidly #6 right now among the At-Large candidates (that have run). If they got invited I think they'd do fine, as it's not that big of a drop from the Rocky Mountain/Crater/Plainsfield North trio (all of those teams wouldn't be a favorite to finish Top 15, but also well within reach so it wouldn't surprise me if any of them would finish anywhere in the teens with Crater probably the only one among them that might seriously threaten a Top 8 finish were Tostenson healthy) ... and a much bigger drop from Vandegrift to the next candidate (the NE#3 and SE#3/4 teams are IMO roughly on par with SO#4 Jesuit LA and might be able to sneak into the Top 20 but not really challenge the top half of the field).
As for the AQ teams from the South, I think Bridgeland TX is comparable to SW#4 Taylorsville UT, NW#2 Jesuit OR and SE#2 St. Albans DC.
I'd have Southlake Carroll TX roughly on par with SE#1 Belen Jesuit FL and MW#1 Downers Grove North IL, but a little behind NW#1 Coeur d'Alene ID and SW#3 American Fork (I have AF behind only Herriman, Niwot and CBA at this point).
speed ratings are for fun, and not perfect, and arent what nxn committee will be looking at... but for what its worth they do show the at-large candidates are quite close to one another
