Energy production , about 16%, consumption also 16%, so that is more or less even.
General production (manuafacturing), approx 16%, consumption approx 30%
You cannot exist without importing. You export less than you import, and cannot import less without exporting less or manufacturing twice the number.
More specifically, Canada is your biggest importer.
You are 100% dependent on imports for 17 minerals and 50% dependent for another 29
You do not have most of the 'new age' minerals needed for future production of critical goods
You have only 0.4% of uranium for nuclear reactors
The list goes on...sure, put ever increasing tariffs on imports and go back to a feudal system...or maybe steal from desperate countries like Trump is doing in Ukraine
You are NOT DOING OTHER COUNTRIES A FAVOUR by importing. You atre dependent on them because of your lifestyle. Get off the dope you are smoking

You simply cannot make enough product in USA for the consumption you have, nor do you have all the resources, including minerals, to do so. You have to either import product and/or raw materials, and yoiu do not have the manpower unless you double productivity when you altready are not good at manufacturing.

Not many of the social issues like gay rights, abortion or feminism have much appeal so Dems need to keep this group interested by talking about the economy.

the other piece is, ironically, immigrants. Apparently, they vote for Trump now. So trumpers should want more immigrants, right? Are trumpers importing immigrants so they will vote Republican?
