This Race was certainly a memorable one. I believe that Kosgei will easily win the national meet.

I really hope that they don't give the south 3 based on the fact that the 2-3 team gap was only 8 points. Trinity (Tex.) only had 2 under 28, and their 5th was 28:55. There's no way that they should go.
My only worry is that they will decide that our gap between 3 and 4 was too large and only give us 3 teams (they won't take RIT and not SLU). That would bump W up to 5 and either the ME up to 5 or the S up to 3. First, it would be ridiculous if Trinity tex went, and second, they can't say that our 3-4 gap is too large and then take Etown (5th ME by a lot).

I'd have to agree with your analysis. I'm looking at it this way- if RIT gets in, SLU gets in. If neither team gets in, who does the bid go to?
Occidental might have a case, but where is the one other team going to come from? Given the current qualifier rules, MW can't send more than 5 (which is a shame, they have 8 teams that could probably be top 20 at nats). The #3 team in the south is not national caliber, and Etown was waaaay back at their regional meet. Farther back than either RIT or SLU was.

NCC= National Champs, team time average = 24:31

All of these teams had a time average within 50 sec of NCC. NCC is going to dominate in a week. You do the math. MW is f***in deep this year. If MW doesn't put their 5 teams all in the top 12, I'll be pretty surprised.
Etown will be lucky to make nats. You could drive a Mack truck through the gap between them and Dickinson. Obviously they did not have their best day today, but who they beat at Oberlin has far less impact on them making nationals than who they beat today. Head-to-heads are good, but they didn't perform at their qualifier meet.
Hey Slowe, stop drinking that midwest kool-aid. Maybe Auggie and UWSP have been over-rated all season. Year in and year out the midwest gets ranked high on history and reputation. Those times on the Oshkosh golf course are not that fast, NCC yes, the rest no, most ran faster at the Oshkosh Invite 4 weeks ago. Lax has been ranked 2-4th most of the seasons the last 4 years and havent really run great at ncaa's in a long time, at least in comparison to their history and ranking. NYU crushed Wash U at UAA. The beauty of xc is you have to run the race and get it done at end of the season, you choke at regionals, you dont go. They choked, as did Oshkosh, and now Wash U picks up the scraps.
RIT could get in, and SLU doesnt. Atlantic will get 4 on a numbers game, but might not get 5 for the same reason. SLU and RIT didnt race anyone really outside of region, SLU ran Paul Short but didnt beat any DIII's there, actually lost to most who made the dance.
It was a great meet yesterday, SLU dominated the womens race, Geneseo ran tough, and the surprising NYU women 3rd only 24 months after being 26th. Men's race was a battle, went out fast 4;44?, and all 3 teams look like they can make some noise at ncaa's. Dubuois and Turlip blew up, anyone know exactly what happened to them, it clearly cost NYU from beating Geneseo. NYU also had a dnf from normal top five guy fitzhenry.
Heymann, Maher and Berube all look like they can be top 15 guys at NCAA's, how many ALL-Americans can the AR get, my prediction is 8.

Atlantic region will either get 3 or 5 with SLU only 3 points from RIT. It's more likely we get 5, but it's definitely possible to get the shaft. It's happened before.

That would truly be a ripoff if Atlantic only got 3 teams. But you are right, it wouldn't be without precedent. When is this supposed to be announced?
