But nine jurors, who know the evidence better than you or I do, found in favor of Carroll. They did not think he story was "laughably absurd".
Carroll's story was corroborated by the two women who she reported the assault to shortly after it happened. Two more women testified about also being sexually assaulted by Trump. All of this is in open court, under oath. Trump couldn't be bothered to even show up for the trial, much less take the stand and deny the "laughably absurd" story under oath.
Trump got caught in a lie about Carroll not being his type. And he got caught admitting to doing exactly what he was accused of doing.
The evidence was overwhelmingly in favor of Carroll. The verdict was not surprising, especially in a civil case with a lower burden of proof.
