It may have been lost in the crosstalk, but someone seemed to have been seizing on the "11.5 then, 15 minute/mile now" BS-cherry-picking to implicate cheating. Just in the last few days she has bounced between mid-15s average to mid 12s and back again. Normal human variability to me, nothing sinister there.Really tragic if they can't backfill the lack of data in the first few weeks though. After the Amy Hughes debacle I can't see Guinness signing off on that.

These are the facts:

Yesterday afternoon Mimi recorded multiple sub 12 minute miles.

This afternoon Mimi averaged around 17 minutes per mile prior to the car ride.

I have not seen any Strava run where she has averaged 17 minute miles.

So yes, she has slowed. This is not evidence of cheating.

One of Mimi's fans needs to ask her to upload part one of her day's run Strava. The afternoon run is there of 41.9 km (26.0 miles) in 6:37:52 at 9:29 per km has been uploaded.

And now the Strava has been posted and it does not match what Garmin recorded -- not even close. While Garmin and Race Drone may not provide accurate speeds at the time the GPS satellite is pinged, the overall calculation of speed should be as simple as distance over time.

I'll leave it to brighter minds than mine to decipher this. My opinion is that Mimi has not cheated, but without good data from the first half of the run this cannot be an official record. I'll go on to say that I think Mimi is faster than Sandy Vi and whatever time Mimi would have completed the run in would have been the valid record to me and a lot of others. Why? Because when this record was set we didn't have the tracking capabilities we have now. It was great that Pete obliterated Frank's record and did it in such a responsible manner. If Mimi is the fighter all her friends say she is, I bet she will get this record one way or another.

By itself it would not indicate cheating but put together with all the other suspicious activities it could become part of the case of evidence. It would be worthwhile for someone to calculate the grade corrected average pace for all her runs so far to see how much slower she has gotten since Mimi seems to have ran quite fast in the mountains with lots of elevation gain and is suddenly slowing down on flat ground when we have a new tracker and making noise. Not what you expect.

This is the problem with Mimi. She botched the data the first 21 days which is entirely her fault. If she is the nice person her friends claim she is she will defer and not attempt to claim she set a official record. At best she can claim an unofficial record and leave her run as a personal adventure. Let's see what type of person Mimi chooses to be.

My guess is that she turns of the app she is using to upload to Strava and she turns it off during pit stops and water refills. So, her Strava is not the Garmin data.

Well, my assumption before was that Pete and Sandy were uploading Garmin to Strava, and that Mimi would do the same. I am not sure about that anymore.

It should be the Garmin to get a data match.

It is my opinion that a runner should not stop the clock when they stop for any reason during a run. Well, except for lunch and sleep for super long runs. The clock is not stopped for any reason on most runs. You stop and your finish time is slower.

The Garmin data is already being uploaded to Garmin's website. It would be a nice additional data set to have the Garmin data also uploaded to Strava. However, if only one data set is uploaded to Strava, then it makes total sense for that data to be from the Suunto watch(es), thereby providing a cross heck between independent data recording devices.

I agree the clock should not be stopped until the runs are complete. It is possible the Suunto watches are set up to automatically stop recording when the runner stops below a certain pace. That feature should be turned off in order for them to continuously record during stops, if transparency is the objective.
