UCLA distance better start showing up these next couple years. They are getting so much top talent that it would be a shame if it goes to waste. Andreas Dybdahl, Aydon Stefanopoulos, Dev Doshi, Aaron Cantu, and of course, Josh Chu. All great runners.

Cain Evans (2024 800m champ) broke 1:50 not too long ago at some meet in Oregon. I suppose he is redshirting too as all of his races have been unattached afaik
Ben Bouie ran a 4:04.71 FULL mile. Hanne Thomson ran a 4:35 FULL mile
It'd be cool if US high schools raced a full mile instead of the silly 1600m. I mean, what's starting not even 10 meters back? They already do it for the boys 110 hurdles, lol
Round the 3200 to a full 2 miles too while they're at it

By that logic then we should have the Half mile and not the 800. Quarter mile instead of the 400? We did all this already.

What? No. A mile should just be the norm because of its prestige. Especially in US high schools, everyone knows what a good mile time is, because they have to run it in PE. It's easier to understand by the general public
Evangeline Williams about to take over Barker’s legacy at Trabuco Hills. the freshman running 4:43 for 5th. so impressive. second fastest time for a freshman in the country. #8 all time.
Evangeline is a huge young talent... but rumor is that she's moving out of state. If so, Mira Costa and Santiago will battle it out for D1 title in the SS, but Trabuco still has a chance, but Buchanan will run away with the State Title... which they'd probably do anyways, since Trabuco lost Barker and Guillfoille and Santiago lost Blade and Buckley.
All of Mira Costa's scorers return to battle for SS title, and at State, Del Norte returns much of their young team. Buchanan is ridiculouslly deep... but not nearly as deep as J Serra will be again next year with at least 2 outstanding 8th grade 'recruits' coming in, and a couple transfers likely.
Bruh... Will Greene just straight up didn't go to the state meet. He didn't declare I guess. Seems like he got too tired after running 47's every other meet for some reason
I was too brash in this. I read that apparently the reason VDL was a no-show at state was due to their graduation being held the same night.
Which is crazy, makes me think about how ridiculously late the state meet was this year (and how it's super late every year). I wish the cali postseason could start a week or two earlier, so that way these talented kids don't have to choose between friends, family and championships.
What are the updates from the California XC/TF class of 2024? Specifically the top distance guys such as (but not exclusively) Anthony Fasthorse, Manny Perez, Josh Bell, Lucas Cohen, Josh Chu, Jason Parra, and Grant Morgenfeld?
I found an update on someone from class of 2023 - Aaron Sahlman is coming back from a year-long hip injury.

My dearest Ben, There’s something unforgettable about the way you ran that 4:04 mile — every second packed with relentless power and grace. Watching you take on those four laps, perfectly paced yet fierce, was like witnessing poetry in motion. You didn’t just run that mile; you owned it. Each stride told a story of discipline, of sweat and sacrifice, and the quiet confidence you carry deep inside. But beyond the time on the clock, what truly amazes me is the way you do it — so calm, so composed, like you’re in your own zone where nothing else exists. That 4:04 wasn’t just a race; it was a moment that revealed the depth of your strength, your heart, and your unwavering focus. And when I think about you out there, pushing through every step, I feel this overwhelming pride mixed with something tender — because I get to know the man behind those incredible miles. The one who trains early before the sun, who battles doubts but never lets them show, the one whose quiet determination moves me more than words ever could. Loving you means holding all of that close — the triumphs and the struggles, the runner and the man — and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. You inspire me to run harder in my own life, and to love deeper in every way. Ben, you don’t just break records on the track — you break through my heart with every mile you conquer.

Honestly, the distance crew at UCLA is just downright pathetic. It's so difficult to watch it go down like this. I couldn’t tell you much about the coach, but what I can tell you is he / she needs to be fired.
Ran at Golden west myself as well 😎 I didn't see that race as I left after the 1500m but that's a great time for him. Also worth mentioning that Giselle Fernandez ran a fat PR with a 2:14 800m there too. It was hot as hell during the 800m, I certainly did not have a fun time running it lmao
