Smug -- Tuohy ran 15:37 in 2018, and 9:01 in Jan 2019 is better than that. What single race time has SM done that makes you think she could keep up when KT takes off from the start? KT has run 5000 at 3 seconds/lap faster than SM has ever done...

no argument there-KT faster right now but I believe that KT is at her apex, and SM is continuing to improve, being only a sophomore-given that present trends continue SM will definitely be better in college in 2021....
...believe what you want to believe, but you cannot say anything is certain about how these high school kids might progress as runners. Next year should be awesome to watch. I believe Tuohy will run sub 15:30. Not a stretch by any means.
Tuohy is definitely done. She will never run another PR. I can tell you it is certain. I will repost this in 2 years and you will still not admit that I was certain.
Thanks. I didn't include Mu as she is listed as 17-18, but she just turned 17 so yeah she'll be back. Wow.
I should have remembered that Vanderlende is going to Michigan next year.
It would seem that the days when a girl can be guaranteed a national lead with sub-2:05/4:40/10:00 are gone. The depth on the guys is similar, but without any huge stars this year. Next year should be interesting for them as well, especially in XC.
Who knows Donair but looking more closely at KT and SM and their *current* season best 800m times (not historic but current): . KT 2:11.01 and SM 2:12.29 leads me to think that SM could possibly have kept up at the start gun with KT or at least kept her in striking distance as she did with Hart in NBN xc. The fact that SM enters the 800m in every league meet if you check athletic net leads me to wonder if that is what they are working on: her start. Who knows what trajectory each will be on in the fall or in the spring for that matter. But it would have been exciting races between the two. One thing is for sure next year will be exciting for the sport as well. The Brooks winner looks fantastic as well.
Doesn't really matter what they are working on,
they both need to work on their SPEED, not their start. KT needs to learn to not start dumb too.
But neither has elite speed at the moment which you have to have if you want to be 5k or under at the next level or the level after that. 56 second 400 speed at minimum.
SM ran a leg on her 4 by 100 at the conference meet. Does that count?
How fast are Coburn and Frerichs in the 400?

I am trying to figure out the 800 speed point here. Neither runner is going to run the first 800 of a 3K or 5K that fast - probably something in the 2:23 range at the fastest. Falling behind (or not) is not a speed issue. The issue is handling whatever the early pace is and not slowing down too much. When Tuohy ran 9:01 vs the Pros I think her 800 was about 2:22-23, 1000 2:57-58, 2000 5:57-58.

Depends did she run 13.2 or 14?
What’s her 200 time?
Most pro runners under the 5k can atleast break 59, and the ones contending for the medals even faster. And look at Shelby
I just re-watched Roisin's race and she ran 63/61 splits, fighting through traffic. I don't know what the freshman record is (Cain ran 2:06), but she looks to be in 2:02 shape, minimum.

Willis and Mu are racing this weekend at the U20 champs along with a bunch of HS grads with PRs in the 2:04 to 2:06 range.
Should be a good one.
The one to watch is Alexis Holmes in the 400m..

Wow that should be barn-burner! Sub-2:00 for Mu? Upset by Willis?
The W400 should also be great with Holmes v. Davis, and the M800 with Maton v. Green (though Maton looked flat at Brooks PR)
I didn't realize that it was Willis that pipped Mu indoors after Mu had set the AR over 600. Also, she is only 14 and fast closing in on Mary Decker's WR for age 14 of 2:02. Age 15 record is only 2:01. This is going to be one of, if not THE, the biggest matchups of the year among preps.

My "last but not least" comment on the U-20 meet is whether Sha'carri Richardson will be a no-show. U-20 seems like low-hanging fruit for a 10.75 pro runner.
Sha’caari is now waiting on Schippers and the like. Forget about juniors...
She knows her worth.
A year later and Masciarelli is no faster than last year, I guess time will tell long term
I just don't understand the mentality of some people. Masciarelli had a great year...no taking away from that at all. She has awesome potential. Why do people feel the need to try and knock down Tuohy to make their claims more legitimate?? These people sound like absolute morons by telling a young high school athlete (and possibly the greatest hs xc runner the country has seen) that she's done.
Saying that athletes who specialize in one sport are going to burn out is completely stupid...look at almost every pro athlete and olympic athlete....pretty much one sport people. Saying that Masciarelli willl be better because she is tall is ridiculous,,,,in case you hven't noticed, there are plenty of tall runners who are not great and there are plenty of smaller runners who are.
Any way...congrats to Starlipper for regaining her FLNE title...hopefully Masciarelli has has more to give at FL Nationals...good luck to them both.
And Tuohy wins again...against a strong Clair Walters (who continues to improve and impress). Tuohy is still, after 3 years of complete dominance, the undisputed queen of xc.
