The only argument I've seen AGAINST pre-marital sex in this thread boils down to "God says it's wrong", which is the weakest argument I've ever heard in my life.

Sure, you can talk about "family units" and (?? idk what other arguments their are), but there's literally ZERO reason why two people who both want to have sex with each other shouldn't be able to have sex with each other. Get birth control / condoms and stay STI free and there's literally no problem or counter argument besides "The bible says not to"

Eh. There is one argument at least, just to play devil's advocate: Abstaining from sex does increase your odds of a successful marriage (at least as defined by "not getting a divorce"). Divorce rates are lowest for men and women who have 0 partners prior to marriage.

Of course, that pre-supposes that marriage is a desirable end goal, and that having a marriage that does not end in divorce is successful. I would personally argue that there is nothing successful about a 50 year marriage where both people have been miserable with each other for 40 of those years and sticking it out for "the good of the marriage".

And, let's face it. it if you believe in God, the God argument is pretty damn powerful for you. I just wish they wouldn't clutter up the thread with that because they know damn well it's not a rational argument and cannot be discussed. You either believe and think it's valid, or you don't and think it's a load of nonsense. Either way, it's emotional stuff that contributes absolute nothing to the conversation.

Doesn't anyone find it at least mildly ironic that we keep hearing that sex is okay between consenting adults as long as they have protection? If pre-martial sex carries no baggage or need for heavy discretion, then why the need for "protection." Just think about it for a moment.

I wonder if there are ANY OTHER sports forum that talk about abstinence more than letsrun (running/track/xc).
