Congrats Bird. That's a helluva time. Especially for a solo effort.

Truth be told, I need to join RRR and Smoove on the Clipper Ship to respectable middle age. If I had a nice Kipchoge cranium, I'd be all over that. But my crop circle is more aesthetically pleasing than the Alien remake of a close buzzcut. I know cuz I went from shoulder-length and curly (think Kenny G but natural) to shaved (think stunted avocado) just for sh!ts and giggles in my 20s. Damned if I do and damned if I don't.
"Clipper Ship to respectable middle age" Dang that is a great line.. i think i spit coffee on my keyboard

Quality workmanship at a reasonable price from the ROC.
Rained here all night and was stilling a steady rain this morning. I was excited for a tempo workout because the gravel trail I was running today would be muddy. The mud was there but I bailed on my workout. Insole on my left shoe was sliding around (I guess from being wet??) so much that running fast uncomfortable. Stopped twice during the first interval to try adjusting my shoe, after which I decided to call it quits.
Keep the bald jokes coming. My plan is that I'll switch my focus to skiing once I hit 30 so at least when its time to shave my head I'll be jacked.
Pewow - I need to get you some headbands .. they are fantastic for bald guys. ( or anyone for that matter)
81 + 73 on the way home. That run kicked my can big time. I felt decent in the first mile or so, and I decided to go hilly...10.13 at 6:55 overall. I felt better after my last two marathons than I did after this morning’s10-miler. Hills, heat, and an avg. HR of 170...now there’s a workout, summer-style.

Def a great quote from Bird. I plan on racing a lot this fall.. one reason for experience.. but its just so much fun to wake up on a weekend morning and go race hard, and then have some good beer after.
True enough, my friend...you can also go hard when “feeling it” in a training run, and have beer afterward. I get a lot, both mentally and physically, out of my flyer runs...very satisfying.
I am racing a 5k tomorrow - always interesting to see what degree of anxiety manifests itself at these races at distances that I am not well prepared for. Usually, it helps to see who is at the line and then pretty much know where I will finish and then race for place without worrying about time..
OR - That is true BUT just cant get the speed and stimulus from a training run esp solo as you can from racing. I was planning a 6-7 mile flyer today but had to split it as I got blow away by the weather this morn
AM- 3 mile 7:18 -6:36-6:00 into the wind
Lunch - 4 mile 7:32-7:02-6:36-5:55 split the last mile 3:05-2:50
So getting there anyways
RRR - Nice pair of progs. Seems like your day woked out well after all.
Yeah good day. My running clothes and the new shoes were soaked (I was at work) so ran the second run in my flyknit streaks and Jorts.
The flyknit streak is a fantastic show. You can leav the laces loose and have great shoe lock w the flyknit and flywires. Makes it seem a lot wider midfoot than it is. Lots of pop

Interesting to hear someone so accomplished and experienced talk about anxiety.
I tend to suffer form it massively and have certainly psyched myself out on more than one occasion, either before or during a race. Last night I ran my 5000m. This is the race that I tried to pull out of due to having only a couple of weeks under my belt back from injury.
For the first time I put a huge amount of effort into refusing to feel any pressure, refusing negative thoughts and refusing to give myself a goal before the race. Not your normal 'think positive thoughts' stuff but real concerted effort.
It really paid off, ran my 2nd best AG race ever off some very erratic pacing (2:41 through 800, 3:16 first K, 3:04 second K and then basically a solo effort stuck between 2nd place and the pack). Considering my non-training recently I'm putting a ton of it down to a relaxed, healthy mental state, partially influenced by my recent reading of Charlie Spedding's autobiography (thoroughly recommended).
Now for some Friday evening fun...
Watching a movie while eating. One of the characters is at a truck stop and has ordered a “Diablo Sandwich.” What movie am I watching?
Allen - Out on the east veranda tonight? What’s cooking?
OR -- Just now joined my wife on the veranda ... she with wine, me with a Corona. Dinner is on hold for the moment. Had a late run after work. Only 7.7, but it was a "flyer." Well, not really. 10:55 first mile. Then 8:40, 8:37, 7:56 ... ??? ... 7:57, 7:02.
By any chance, did you view that 1977 Bill Rodgers Boston Marathon video that was linked here a week or so ago? Really took me back to that era. Amazing how many marathons he would run, plus a lot of other races, too. His marathons in 1977:
Kyoto, Japan (2:14:25) 1st
Boston (DNF)
Amsterdam, Netherlands (2:12:46) 1st CR
Waynesboro (2:25:12) 1st
NYC (2:11:28) 1st
Fukuoka (2:10:55) 1st
No, I probably meant to watch it, but forgot. I went back thrugh last week’s thread, but did not see it there.
