In Rupp's defense, he has a large circle of family and friends, he's also got 3 little kids now. Dude is busy. I have seen him stop and sign autographs for kids and fans, many times. Seen him stop and greet fans at a restaurant patio he walked by at a major meet. It's all perspective.

He doesn't hang with other single, non married runners, before or after a race. Big deal. Everyone lives their life their own way. He has a full life and a full schedule. But, I've seen him make time for fans many, many times.

Tremendous time for him, a very tough performance in, admittedly, ideal conditions but without the high quality pacers needed for 2:05. That makes him #3 all-time non-African born on a legit course. As for the American record, this falls behind Khannouchi's two sub 2:06s, but I have to say that they are even more suspect than Rupp's, coming in the EPO era.

Not sure if anyone noticed but i thought it was smart where he attacked Lemma...Right before a long hill. Boston training comes in handy!! He knew Lemma may have a weakness there.

Come on, as if there isn't a difference between peoples who migrated here within the last four or five hundred years at most and peoples who migrated here ten to twenty thousands years ago or more.

Looked amazingly strong at the end! Dude is a beast. Interested to see what's next for him. Berlin with the big boys and a chance to get a big PR and break the American record or stay in the US at Chicago to defend his title and a big payday? He did state in his recent interview that his main goal is to win the Gold in the Olympic marathon. Maybe this plays into his choices? Anyway, I'm hoping to watch him race at the US Olympic marathon trials in 2020 in Atlanta. Exciting things to come...

I totally agree with this about the Boston Marathon. Yuki Kawauchi is the exception (master of suffering in miserable cold weather) but most of the elites were easily losing 10+ minutes off their PR’s. I was disappointed I ran 2 minutes slower than my PR but in better weather conditions I feel I would have comfortably PR’d..

He took some time while doing drills with Hasay before 2017 Chicago to take a picture with me and some running buddies as we ran by doing a shakeout. He seemed nice enough to me.. I am a Rupp fan. Happy he won that Chicago marathon.

Ruppers among us, what's Rupp's top end now?

Could he jump into a London or Berlin (more turns than Prague maybe), and be there for a low-4 or high-3?

I still go with Farrah second and Rupp third in the 2020 Olympics. You know the winner.

I also think we've seen Rupp's sweet spot. An odd course that has your mind going, and weather that's a bit higher than what we think is ideal. Might not be for him. Nice race, Rupp. You're still not my guy, but that was cool to see.

rupp was clearly a 205 to 6 guy the moment he scored bronze in the olympics. any pro knew that.

now he's clearly a 204 to 5 guy in a berlin type situation. all pros know that too.

no idea here if he has the 203 in him though.

he's a contender anyhow.

I know that all this shaddy story about NOP will always make everyone doubt about Galen's success, but this performance was a nice one.

And after see him pushing the rabbit, vomiting at the end, made me appreciate it more as a "human-effort" than the "machine-effort" we are used to see.

Hope that he can keep winning and doing well, it's nice to see him run!

Certainly less doped to the gills than the runners with better times. He can clearly run a 2:03 so it's just a matter of time until your hero's are surpassed and their records thrown into the trash. He will demolish all them just like he did Sisay today.

I don't think it is flukey in the way you find it flukey.

There are seven billion people on the planet. A very tiny number run at all, a much smaller number run seriously and almost none get recognised for their talent because they are busy doing other things.

Champions are everywhere, they just need to be trained properly.

Take the New York City Marathon. How many people "run" it? 50,000? How many are destination marathon runners between 3:00:00 and 6:00:00? In the top-100 maybe a handful are from the NY area. Out of what? 20-million NY area people, two or three run it at an elite level?

Then there is London, the same idea applies, in fact, there will be some of those elites who ran NY running London too - so the pool is small.

I suggest there are thousands of Galen Rupps throughout the world and wonder if there are hundreds of thousands. They will never run, so we will never know.

Arthur Lydiard demonstrated this by taking neighbourhood boys and making them all champions, especially the original three or four Peter Snell, Barry Magee and Murray Halberg.
