A gender test has no merit at all. Semenya is a man. The SA authorities buried the biological details and the IAAF approved him to compete with women due to his unusual circumstance and to avoid causing SA and him any embarrassment. They made a bad decision to base his inclusion on gender, i.e. what he identified as, and that's why people are upset.
"It would be wrong today to take a decision to withdraw an athlete. This is a medical condition. It is nothing that she has done. There is a need to make sure rules are followed. We are more concerned for the person and not to make this as something that is humiliating."

I'd be interested in knowing how much money Caster makes from running. I know she comes from some small village. The only reason I ask is that there is this presumption that Caster is some innocent victim in all of this who simply wants to be able to run and has been told to run as a female. However, there seems to be a massive monetary advantage to her running as a female instead of a male i.e., she wins and wins money, gets endorsements, etc. In that case, Caster has a real intensive to continue on running as a woman and winning as a woman rather than running in men's events where Caster would lose and still be living in some tiny village. If she has indeed come from some tiny village to relative massive wealth, then having testicles has been a real cash cow. It's hard to think of someone as being a voice for women's rights/transgender rights etc. when there is a massive profit incentive in demanding those "rights".
I could be wrong. Perhaps she makes no money from her running at all and Caster is just an innocent victim of the "rules" and simply runs for the joy of running.
Let's test him again.

No, LRC is fairly discussing the merits of Semenya as a runner, but the board needs heavy moderation on the Semenya threads which get bogged down in ugly posts. You can't let trolls constantly call her 'he' or 'it' on LRC and expect to appear open to reasonable judgment of the real issue.
Ask the writer if she'd be ok with a fringe Olympic qualifier from the men's side, say 2016 Tyson Gay, declaring as a female, sweeping golds in Rio and setting women's world records that no xx athlete could ever equal. If she says no, you two don't disagree that there should be hard lines drawn on the women's side for biological classification that override gender identity, you only disagree where the lines should be drawn. If she says yes, ask her why we should have a women's division instead of running everyone together and awarding the top 6 finishers medals regardless of sex. She can't have it both ways.

I cannot imagine her writing an email like that. If it was her I'd blow up her spot and email her correspondence to her dept chair, colleagues, dean, provost, and chancellor. She wouldn't risk her career with emails and accusations like that... I'd hope.

As a female runner, feminist, and transgender advocate, I completely agree that Semenya and other intersex athletes should NOT be allowed to compete against xx females unless their testosterone is reduced to the appropriate level. I don't see any discrimation or bigoted issue with a rational rule supported by science that allows for a protected women's category.
The only issue I see is that this board allows for bigoted, transphobic, hateful, disgusting Semenya bashing, in the name of free speech. That is the first thing that should be regulated ...before even talking about regulating anyone's testosterone levels.
