OMG: What happened in the women's 800? Will they re-run the race?

Yeah, but so what? By that logic the women's OT 800 should just be cancelled because none of them stand a chance against someone with several times the amount of testosterone they have. To say that because Semenya has that advantage nullifies the accomplishments of these women and the importance of this race is lame and nihilistic. Semenya or no Semenya, the Olympic team still matters.

Speaking of theatrics, what was Montano doing with the falling, jogging, crying stuff. Finish the race or get off the track!

At 1:35.1-1:35.4 you can freeze it and see Montano's knee hit Martinez' foot. In fact, that is the only way Martinez' rear leg can be so twisted at 1:35.4. Of course If your rear leg is knocked to the outside, your body will twist left and that caused a bump with Ajee.

at 1:34.7 Martinez' left heel comes up high after being clipped from behind. Rogers was on the rail and had nothing to do with what was going on outside of her. At 1:35.4 Montano's right foot is on the outside line of lane one. She is clearly pushing thru and trying to get between Martinez and Rogers. Martinez' has cycled the "high" left foot thru--one stride (awkwardly)--and now her out of position left foot has been 'kicked inwards' from Montano's right leg, causing Martinez to over-rotate forward just before her right foot has touched the ground. At 1:36.2 Martinez continues to stumble and lose momentum. At that point, Montano pushes her way on thru between Martinez and Rogers. This causes Rogers to twist. At 1:37.0 Rogers is already turned sideways by a flailing and falling Montano who shoves Martinez out into lane four.

Agreed, it was pathetic. I found Montano's drama actually worse than the foul, as the foul can at least be chalked up to unintentional stupidity in a high pressure situation. But jeez, have some dignity. I was neutral on Montano up until now, and actually liked the pregnancy stunt she pulled. Now I will never root for her again.

I have no idea but I do wonder about her mental health. She has a young baby to care for now. I'd hate to think the childs safety is in jeopardy because her mother is distraught and unhinged.

Montano is correct. As I suggested on the Day 4 thread, watch the replay on NBC Olympics' Facebook page. Martinez was the first one who tripped when she was trying to get past Wilson. Then Martinez flailed to regain balance, which tripped up Montano. Not at all excusing Montano's ensuing theatrics, nor NBC's choice to show her entire sordid final 200m. However, it looked like it was Martinez who initiated that train wreck.

Twice, in her interview, Montano claims she was safely in lane three when the whole thing happened. The video tells another story and shows her in the outside of lane one and trying to push thru, and between, Martinez and Rogers. Martinez wasn't trying to get around Wilson at this point. She was waiting for the straight to come up.

The above is completely true. This is bothering me because it really isn't Martinez' fault.

Guys, it is OBVIOUS it was Montano who clipped Martinez from BEHIND. WATCH WILSON- WILSON DOES NOT MOVE AN INCH when Martinez stumbles. Think about it-picture yourself in a track race, and pretend you are Wilson, and your leg hits Brenda's. Even if it doesn't make you fall, INSTINCTIVELY your body is going to REACT to the CONTACT to make sure you stay on balance. Watch Wilson again. She runs the entire way without a nudge. If you watch at 1:35.4 again, you can see that the front of Montano's foot is OVER Martinez. She clipped her from behind, caused Martinez to stumble as the reaction, and that took Montano down as she deserved because she caused the problem in the first place. I like Montano, I was crying for her when she fell. She has been through a lot-dealing with the Russian dopers, etc. BUT SHE CLIPPED MARTINEZ- SHE UNPURPOSEFULLY CAUSED THE ACCIDENT. THAT IS THE FACT.

Watch the video in slow motion, then watch it in fast motion. It could not be more clear.

Absolutely agree with everything here. It was an embarrassing stunt to watch; focus should have been on Grace and the other qualifiers.

ALSO a few more things....Brenda states she was clipped FROM BEHIND i her interview.

And lastly, watch the acceleration of Montano and how IMMEDIATELY after Montano accelerates to get closer to Martinez....Martinez falls.

Ajee Wilson wasn't touched in the melee. She may have been the only runner not affected.

This was Montano running up on Martinez.

I wish there was a way that Martinez, Wilson, Grace and Ludlow could all be on the team, they are all my favorites :( but that's the nature of the Olympic beast, I guess :(
