Why do people still choose iPhones over Android phones?

At the end of the contract your Moto X is freaking worthless, you couldn't get 50 bucks on eBay. If your iPhone is in good condition then you will easily get 300. You bought an inferior phone to save 200 bucks and have no choice but to say how great it is. I'm happy for you, now go ride your fixie and root into your system and change your wallpaper to something cool...the fact that you own a MotoX means you are not an adult.

iPhone5s is $99 for 16GB, $149 for 32GB.

1. The base iPhone 5 is free with contract. So it's actually infinitely cheaper by your highly dubious accounting methods. But since you pay for the phone in your contract (the phone companies are not picking up the bulk of the cost out of the goodness of their hearts), his math was right.

2. You can't go just by processor speed. That's like picking the better runner based just on VO2 Max. You need benchmarks. And the iPhone 6 blows the doors off of every Android phone on the market, including Androids phones that are faster than the Moto X.

3. The iPhone 6 has a 4.7 inch screen. Be consistent. If you want to compare to an older phone, then fine. But then don't quote the price of a top of the line phone and say that it's cheaper.

I've used both.

I moved from iPhone to Android when I could get Samsung S4 with a 5" screen. I liked the screen, the better specs, and it was fun to tinker with Android for a few weeks.

I just got an iPhone 6. It's faster and has better battery life than my S4. Fewer bugs. Screen looks good.

Most iOS apps are just more polished than the Android ones. That's a big benefit.

I could live with either platform. My iPhone almost never gives me stupid random problems and over time I find that valuable.

Paid an extra $100 bucks to get 64gb and that's more space than I'll ever use. Minor price premium.

Phones are all pretty good now. Not sure why people get so bent out of shape over iOS vs. Android.

You're making the same mistake as the other guy. "Better specs" - which better specs?

More dpi? This is needed in cheap Android AMOLED screens because you don't have 3 LEDs per Pixel as in LCDs.

More megapixel camera? Doesn't matter, picture quality matters, focus speed, etc. iPhone wins again.

Higher CPU speed, more cores? Doesn't matter, iPhone 5S and 6 are faster than any Android phone available today.

It's interesting how emotional people get about a phone. It's OK, and it just shows how important are phones are re: making day-to-day decisions.

I use an iPhone because it's provided to me by my business and totally free.

Haven't scrolled the through thread. Has any logical discussion developed and noted the worthwhile bulletpoints of one vs. the other?

Price is not important to me at these levels. $299 vs $99...yawn. (However, the price for a iPhone5 is $149 - or $99 if you can live with 16GB.)

What's important to me are the apps available, and integration with everything else I have: macbook, iMac, iPad, AppleTV. I guess you would call me a fanboi, but I'm not. I'm a unix guy. IOS/MacOSX is unix underneath (as is andriod), with a decent UI, and good looking, solid hardware.

I'll pay for quality. I make 6 figures, with a 7 figure net worth. I want stuff that works, works together, and makes my life easier. Apple stuff is not perfect. Android is a good platform, and many of the phone are quality. However, I chose a product line that did it for me as a whole and until I see a compelling reason to switch I'm staying with what I have.

Two-year commitments aren't consumer friendly. Once you are locked into a two-year commitment, your provider has almost no reason to prove you with good service. They don't have to work for your business or to retain you. Thus high prices and poor service ensue. Once you're locked in, there is no way out. Even if you move the a new apartment and your service provider's signal there sucks, so sad, too bad. Early termination fees are huge. CONSUMER LOSS

Month-to-month plans are consumer friendly. You can switch carriers anytime you'd like. You can switch phones anytime you'd like. You pay far lower prices and can negotiate lower rates still by threatening to jump for the other provider. CONSUMER WIN

Finally(!) in 2014 consumers and the media are waking up to this scam:

The USA and Canada are literally the only countries where the two-year contract scam is the norm.

Fact of the matter is, everyone uses a percentage well south of a phones full capabilities and either phone works just fine for everyone.

All this thread proves is there are really clever and efficient market campaigns being run and people swallow them hook line and sinker.

Not to mention, your phone provider can track any phone (even non-smartphones) using tower triangulation anyway. Doesn't really bother me actually, especially when a lot of the tracking is used for my benefit.

Disagree. Android has the best app ecosystem and the most-developer friendly API out there.

Disagree. Google services ecosystem is better than Apple's. Microsoft's is pretty good as well. We're talking products like Gmail, Microsoft Office 365. These are industry leaders with industry-leading ecosystems.

iOS users tend to frivolously spend money, yes. That's sort of the point of this thread! Nonetheless, Android user base is far larger than iOS's and app development is plenty lucrative.

I agree. HTC and Motorola have some nice stuff. Samsung leaves much to offer on the software and hardware side, in my opinion. It's a shame they became the face of Android, because there are some good companies out there.

Moto G is a very nice phone, but it's clearly a mid-tier smartphone. It not exactly an apples to apples comparison. It scored near the bottom of just about every benchmark test - by a long shot for several. It scored considerably lower than even the iPhone 5s or the S4, phones that are over a year old. You are getting what you are paying for.

Two of those companies make money by selling software/hardware (MS and Apple), and one makes money by selling targeted ads based on information they collected on you (Google). It's not unreasonable to think that the companies have different views on privacy. Personally, it doesn't bother me too much - I use gmail, google search, youtube, have a google+ account, etc. But you don't need to speculate too much to see the differences between the companies in this regard.
