I gotta a feeling that Carlsen is going to play agressive tomorrow......and Anand might make him pay for it. Carlsen is a young confidant stud who has been playing a mature controlled game. He gained a bit of confidence during the last game and he might unleash the inner Carlsen.

He narrowly lost to Karpov in '78 when Karpov was at his peak. Karpov should have been disqualified in that match because his team was illegally sending him blueberry yoghurts during play. Actually Korchnoi's big disadvantage was that the Soviet government held his family hostage until after he lost to Karpov. Psychological warfare.

Not if you count in social intelligence. So far hes only proven that he knows a lot of statics + can use an online calculator. Wooho, what a genious!

Game 5 - a decisive result! Carlsen at his end-game best. This is where he is the best in the world - grinding out closely fought endgame wins which look theoretically drawn.

I predict Anand will struggle to regroup after that.

But Carlsen just keeps pressing, setting up positions that require difficult and precise calculation, and eventually his opponent fails to find the best move. It may not be pretty, but it's awfully effective, and probably very disheartening to opponents.

Vent seems more interested in dynamics than statics, and I believe the calculator is of his own devising. I don't know if that makes him a genious [sic], but I do enjoy many of his posts. Possibly age became a factor also. As the game dragged on, and Carlsen kept on the pressure, Anand seemed to weaken in the later stages of the game. Most of his weaker moves were in the end game. The older player had difficulty sustaining his level of contration.

The odds are overwhelming that Carlsen will win the match. Anand is 43 and Carlsen is 22. That's a huge advantage for the younger player among comparably talented players. The average age of the top 100 best players is 30.1.

And Carlsen is rated 95 points higher than Anand. That's significant, not decisive, but it's a factor.

Carlsen now +2. If Anand is going to make a match of it, he really needs a win in game 7. From middle of game 3 on, Carlsen has looked very impressive, but hey, it's chess and Anand is certainly good enough to take advantage of a Carlsen blunder should Carlsen be in a giving mood.

Yes, it actually reminded me of the fifth game of that match, where Botvinnik could never quite overcome the disadvantage of his isolated king pawn after move eleven.

Round Six: Another soul-crushing loss for Anand. On move 23, he allows his pawns to be doubled on the king-file (e-file), seemingly a minor weakness in a relatively blocked position with just queens and rooks, and without an open file on which Carlsen could attack the doubled pawns. But Carlsen just bores in on that weakness, undermines the d-pawn support for the doubled pawns by advancing his own c-pawn, open ups the file, and wins a pawn. Anand may have missed a draw after that, but he was always on the defensive, always having to calculate long sequences to find the right move.
