How is this any different than if the tri-woman was wearing headphones and not paying attention?

The question you need to ask yourself is "What would Teg have done?"

There is no difference than Teg & this Brent Cullen....their respective finishing speed is immaterial.

Don't be dumb. Teg would not punch a woman or anyone else he was racing. Inadvertent collision because someone isn't paying attention is one thing, punching or shoving someone out of the way is another. It's indefensible, and would get you DQ'd in any track or road race.

I'll qualify my statement. Races should DQ anyone who intentionally shoves or pushes another runner out of the way. RD's aren't omniscient and maybe they are weenies sometimes, but regardless it should be grounds to DQ runners. And I'm not talking about stumbling into people or accidental collisions, but trying to bulldoze someone in front of you.

If you’ve read my Letsrun posts over the years, you know that I have on many occasions defended things I felt the Letsrun community got wrong and/or didn't understand. Besides the punching incident, a lot is being made of the general triathlete demeanor. I have been to a lot of triathlons, I’ve done a few of them and I have to agree that at times it seem like triathletes all have a common personality disorder. Perhaps I should not say all, but a lot of them have an elitist attitude. I can’t quite put my finger on have causes this attitude, but this is what I think might be the cause:

1. It is a very expensive sport, more expensive than the average runner can imagine and perhaps triathletes represents the general attitude of people with money.

2. The requirements of the sports, the money and time are such that it requires a somewhat compulsive personality and this is what you see in their behavior.

3. A lot of the participants were never athletes, they spent most of their life as a spectator and perhaps envious of athletes and perhaps their behaviors now is reflective of they think is an athlete’s behaviors.

4. Perhaps they are angry about all of the money, time and effort put into triathlons and they seem to achieve what they want to achieve.

Don't be too sure, Teg once tried to nail a guy from behind in a race.

Half iron which makes the times even more impressive. Over a mile in a true 71.1

That being said, I doubt that one person who has posted how slow this guy is could sub 5 this race. In fact I doubt more than a few LR posters could overall.

Brian is slow. 1:40, even if you swam from Cuba to America , it is still slow. Brian does not have the athletic genetics, he probly works hard , miles and miles every week, yet he still sucks as an athlete or runner. Maybe this is why he is a prik, and felt the need to teach a 100lbs women a lesson. The argument about how fast the LR crowd can do a half iron, doesn't change the fact that Brian is un-athletic-slow, and that Brian is a prik and coward.

Both were wrong.

The guy finishing shouldn't have pushed her out of the way (if that is indeed what happened). He likely could have side-stepped her. And after finishing, at least go back to see if she was okay.

She should realize that this is a race. Pay attention to your surroundings. I realize that she was not in it for the competition, but she should respect those who do and understand that, for some, it is a race.

this is what people get upset about these days? she was clearly in the wrong and the inconsiderate one getting in peoples way... why couldn't she have maybe glanced back to see if anyone was coming? if you aren't paying attention while driving and drift into the wrong lane on the road what do you expect. move on and get over it, no one freaking cares...

on another note I am thankful for those pictures, they are laugh out loud funny.
