I think wearing shorts under tights is probably the way to go.

i was doing 400s at the track this morning in wind pants (briefs under) and a hoodie (and $1.99 cotton gardening gloves from ace hardware)
another guy was wearing gym shorts over tights, listening too his iPod, running a pair of 10 minute miles.
i thought of this thread.

Lets end this thread with some logic and opinion based on observation.
(1) Most nonrunners who see male runners running in tights think they look either effeminate or just goofy. No I haven't taken a survey but I heard comments about the way people dress and some in particular about the way some runners dress and I believe this to be true.
(2) Adult runners in the past 20 years have developed a style as a group and most dress pretty well and in fact have had many running clothes and shoes copied by nonrunners. Personally I think its a positive thing to look good and have others mimic your styles. It reflect positive self image to care about how you look. (Not to be obsessed but to know that when you workout in a public area people think, "hey that athletic looking guy or woman looks good) Vain maybe a little.
(3) If you say you don't care what people think, you are either deluding yourself or you have a social problem.
(4) Society values change and evolve but as for now, male runners running in public (nontrack) areas in tights are viewed negatively.
This probably sums it up best. Well done.

Seconded. One of the better subtle-troll threads in a while. Kudos to the OP.
Jogger or male under 17 and you will wear your shorts over the tights. A real runner will wear the shorts under the tights and if it gets hot you can take off the tights.
Went to a 5k race this morning. It was 35°, raining, windy, and dark when I started running. I wore regular
running pants today but I did note 3 or 4 runners wearing shorts over tights including an assistant coach of a high school xc team. Of course the young kids just wore shorts and the joggers wore any type of sweats, tights, or running pants imaginable.
I NEVER once heard anybody say anything to anybody about their choice of legwear!!
This is what you will see at most races in the cold weather
1 running pants
2 shorts only
1 tights only
1 shorts over tights

I guess all those kenyans who do much of their daily running in tights, will want to reconsider after reading this thread...NOT.

just perused the brojos pics from their Kenyan trip...lots of elite runners....some body suits....no tights.
http://www.letsrun.com/2007/kenya/102_PANA/arles_gallery/index.htmlJust because you call something logic doesn't mean it's actually logical. Where I'm from, no one gives a shit about someone wearing running shorts underneath tights. I run around low income, inner-city areas a lot and people are just like "meh". Tights over shorts can look fresh if worn correctly.
But do whatever you like. Don't be so self-conscious. Lots of these posters are really insecure, mediocre runners (on both sides) who can't accept people doing whatever makes them comfortable that doesn't offend anyone.
In all honesty does it really matter how you dress for running? I don't give a crap about how some stranger judges me as I run along the road, whether or not they're a redneck or a fellow runner. Personally, I'll wear tights when running and then put shorts over them when I go inside and talk with friends or a coach. I'd just feel less comfortable without the shorts on, especially around my friends that play baseball/football/etc and don't really understand the whole running tights without shorts thing. But if I'm outside running the roads I'm not about to judge someone wearing shorts over their running tights or not wearing running shorts over them. It. Does. Not. Matter. There's more to a person than how they feel comfortable with the clothing they run in. I mean it's rather wasteful to get angry over such an insignificant thing, you're almost all adults, I hope you'd get past the whole "judge a book by its cover" thing. I'm 17 and it appears I've realized that more than the rest of you.
hello, check out the threads my man bernie is rockin in this workout.
