It's pretty unfortunate. He could have rigged up on the last lap and broken 13:00 most likely. He was right on Solinsky. He could have been dropped hard by Chris and still pushed Teg and Kennedy back on the U.S. lists. In all likelhood he would have passed Ritz's mark (former AR) today.

Hopefully Zurich is another quick one.

Kenyans are some sporadic runners, so these things will happen from time to time. Did you see Ebuya just give up and shut it down with 1450 to go? That right there could have caused a trip up and Rupp was just behind him.

He stopped 50 meters into the race? Rupp didn't fall until much later than that.

point Aebuya actually did that with 1350 to gopoint B that is not what caused rupp to go down, that happend about 300 meters laterpoint C this was not a 1500 m race, it was 5000 m.................................................

well if it wasn't for the kenyand mercinary who has a questionable epo result solinsky would have his AR and he'd be a bit less frustrated, but this should push him to higher levels.

lagat is a really nice guy though. i thought he was going to be a 5k man? did he throw the towell in after he set and AR while getting his butt kicked? does he like getting his butt kicked more at 1500? is he afraid that he might help set the AR for solinsky or rupp if he does the 5000 again? super nice guy, really smart about marketing himself.

He's having a massive year after years of falling well below his expectations. He's talking on adrenaline, just like after his 10K. He's coming back from a dissapointing race a PRE, which was still solid. Give him a little slack.

He's excited, he's inspired, he's moving forward and he's 5 seconds off the fastest 5000 so far in 2010. To my knowledge other than Ritz last year and Lagat this year, when was the last time any american 5000 man could say the same (including Kennedy)?

From a manager in Stockholm: "Galen Rupp didn't finish in the 5000m caused he was tripped. Coach Salazar has him at the warm-up track now doing a workout --> Impressive!!

Megatime, if you want to know the truth (an inconvenient truth for you) Rupp was born in may of 1986 which would make him now...you guessed it....24!

At 24 he has a better resume in every aspect (ncaa career, international career, prs) than any of Teg, Solinsky, Kennedy or Ritz or Hall.

Those are the facts and what is really going to eat your ass is that he keeps improving. Hell at 24 he's pretty much on the level with the best of what any of these guys have EVER done.

Fernandez lacks something vital which Rupp has shown better than all the other greats from the U.S. currently competing (save lagat). Consistency, ability to train hard and long and stay healthy most of the time, and ability to deal with the pressure. As of now Fernandez has a 3000 PR slower than what Rupp and Solinsky split today.

Part of being a great runner is actually being able to run and race.

He DID fall in the 1996 olympics, but this was in the final, and he still finished.
