Several guys on my team can break their age in the 400, but they all place regularly in Masters Nationals and Worlds, so, yeah, that's not easy.
I ran a 56.5/400 in June with no training. Keep up the good work master runners.
these people are mostly lying obviously, 43 seconds is the best time on the entire planet earth. i guarantee most ppl are shaving 3-5 seconds off their actual time. 56 seconds is a terrific time don't let these frauds make you feel slow
I've dropped about 17 seconds although the latest one was in a relay on a wet grass track with a hill. Set off too fast and bombed.
Injuries, putting on weight and hardly any training does for you on all distances. Trying to get back into it but every old injury is coming back
I was running in the 57's at age 43. Then at age 47 I was running 59's and 25.6 for the 200. Now at 65, I'm running 69's and still getting into the 29's or the 200. Gettin' slower, but trying to hang in there. I still find it a fun social and fitness outlet.
In two year I will be 40 years old. I will run a 1:53/800 easy. What is the world record for this gourp.
For you guys that have done it, what age did you first run your age in the 400? I'm shooting for 57 next year....
I started running distance at 44 y.o. I'm now 52.
My all-time track debut was at the Armory in January 2013. First sib 1-mile race was in Feb.
400m debut in July - 72.8. No idea what I was doing. I ran the first 200m flat out then hung on for grim death.
72s again earlier this month after winning my AG in my 100m debut and coming 3rd overall in the 800m.
I'll run 68s in a meet next weekend. I know I can get down to 63s with weight and flexibility training.
I want to go sub 60 by the time I'm 55. What advice can you give me? I'll hire a coach if I see significant progress.
I regularly run 8 x 200 in 32-34s.
"Raced" 400 twice in my life, once indoors at age 43-ish (59.5 I think), and again (outdoors) the day before my 46th b-day (58.85, my "PB" I guess). At 48 now, and I'm 100% sure I'll never see sub-60 again

WR is 1:48.22. Keep dreaming. 2 years is a long ways away.
