Look at Chatt's results from this season - they've only been running 6 guys all year. 1 gets hurt, sick, or DNFs and that leaves 5. As a poster earlier said, Chatt's problem always seems to be depth.

Anyone remember the time Soderman got half a hj on the way back from Bass Lake?
No...must have been you that gave it to him.

Anyone currently on a SoCon team besides App. State remember winning a conference title? Oh wait, that's impossible because they've won 6 straight conference championships. Maybe next year UNCG...Congrats to App. State
yep. 6 straight xc titles and 10 total titles (xc/indoor/outdoor) since the fall of 2006. ridiculous. they must be drinkin a lot of that special koolaid recipe that was on the old thread
The water here is pretty damn good. So are the hills we get to run up and down.

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the 2010 SoCon cross country championships yesterday in Boone, NC. I thought some awesome performances were had by the whole top 6, but in particular, Joey Thompson and Charlie Mcgoogan. Thought they both ran real smart races. Everyone was hating on Charlie especially this week, look like he proved you guys wrong. Should show you guys to doubt people, and especially of all people him. Props to APP state for not getting anyone on first team all conference but still winning. Awesome program.
NOW ON TOO TRACK BABY!!!!
Sup McGoogan?
I feel sorry for the Chat team. This was their year to win it. Berry and Kirwa are, in my opinion, the best 1-2 in the conference. App had no front runner. But for some reason, they couldn't pull it off. Maybe it's because they only had 5 guys finish. Maybe it's because of the unintelligent strategy they have of not competing against ANYONE during the year. There are many reasons. All I know is that if I were on the Chat team I would be pretty mad at Gautier. They have the ability to recruit just as well as anyone in the conference. Why oh why did they only have 5 guys finish? They knew going into it that they were going to have to have at LEAST 5 guys having near perfect days to take down App. Did Gautier really think that they could win with the guys they had on the line to start the race? I'm thoroughly confused.
On to 2011-Charleston Hosting
1-App St.-Who else?
2- UNCG-Closing gap
3- Dav-Will do well all season until SoCon
4-Elon-Young team should improve
5-UTC- Berry back? Anything else?
6-Furman- Seem to be slipping backward with Caldwell coaching
7-CofC- Home course, enough to move past WCU
8-WCU- Keep it on the track
9-Sam- Why don't men compare to their women?
10-Woff- Someone calls it every year but closest they've been to someone ever
11-Citadel- Hope I'm wrong
It seems like Gautier would learn the lesson of not having depth on his team. Remember 2000 in Boone, I believe he traveled six to the meet and his 5th guy started WALKING during the race around mile 3 or 4.
This is an ongoing issue for them and its not likely to change.

-App #1 of course
-UNCG 2nd? Their 3 and 4 were seniors and I don't see anyone coming up to help out Thompson and Koech. They won't be closing the gap next year at all.
-Davidson only loses Schmidt who always races like utter crap at socon so they will most likely be looking for that second team spot. Or they'll under perform again.
-Elon 4th? Really? Every year they're predicted to have a great conference race and every year they fall terribly short of those high hopes. I feel lack of a true track season really hinders their running.
-If Berry comes back for UTC they'll be looking all right. If not they'll be in trouble. Not saying they don't have talent, they do, they just have barely enough runners as it is.
-How is Furman slipping backward? McGoogan ran out of his mind for 6th. Gilmer was 4:04 in the mile last year. They were moved up one spot this year. Based on rankings they were supposed to be way behind Elon in sixth. Yet they were closing in on Davidson at conference and put 3 ahead of Elon's number 2.
-CofC could possibly beat Western. Depends how Westerns 2-5 run. Weavers looking great so something in their training must be going right.
-Bean must have had crazy natural ability to run as fast as he did at Samford.
-Wofford or Citadel? We always joke about it but next year might be a true battle for last.
now that people are speculating about next year, how long until someone from WCU comes on here talkin bout how next year theyre gonna have great success? every year some western guy says the same stuff early and then is real quiet when they put like 2 guys under 27
Does anyone in the Socon have a realistic chance at really mixing it up and making it to Nationals?

Honestly if Kirwa races very well he could potentially be one of the 4 individual qualifiers out of the south region.
He's run 24 flat at Louisville this year so he could potentially make it.
I hope he does make it. Great for the socon.
There is little to no chance of anyone else making it. (team or individual)
I did not mean Furman was getting worse, they are not placing as high as they once did. The conference is getting better. Look at the numbers:
5 yrs before:
2004- 3'rd, 2 All Conf 1'st team
2005-3'rd, 2 All Conf 1'st team
2006-2'nd, 2 All Conf 1'st team
2007-3'rd, 1 All Conf 1'st team
2008-3'rd, 2 All Conf 1'st team, 1 2'nd team
Last 2 years
2009-6'th, 1 All Conf 2'nd team
2010-5'th, 1 All Conf 1'st team
Just looking at numbers, no harm meant and I don't know new dist coach. I just recall the bashing of the head coach on here for years when they were placing a lot higher and thought that the new distance guy would improve them. Maybe they will the next few years, but losing McGoogan will hurt. Time will tell.

As far as regional THIS year:
App and UNCG have good chances to be in the top 10, Kiwa might make it through which would be great for the SoCon!
Did Kirwa make nationals? If so, that's awesome, congrats. I have a hunch that Raby will become a new powerhouse in the Socon. Pretty darn good race today. Everyone else was just meh.
Kirwa made it. Rang ran very well but Koech in 28th place is a little better than "meh."
Did anyone notice Schnell from UNCG @ Louisville.. shd had a top 15 finish and a few places out of qualifying...

Koech, Raby, McGoogan, Weaver, and Hudgins all ran well.
App was hurt by Soderman and Taylors bad day. Still looked better than rest of conference.
UNCG only did well because Koech was 28th. Rest ran like crap. Thompson wasn't even top 10 socon guys.
Davidson all ran pretty bad for what they should be doing. Didn't Hopkins run 24 flat here earlier?
Furman almost profited off Davidson's bad day. 5 points off beating them. Gilmer was their 4th man to.
Rest of Socon...meh is a pretty good description.
do we have to start a new thread for a discussion and prediction on track? who you got?
