I was honestly shocked when he got disqualified. I mean it wasn't the best sportsmanship but COME ON he didn't do anything to prevent the others from beating him to the line.

Look people. Sports are competitive. People want to win really bad. And when they do, sometimes they celebrate. Boo hoo, some rich little Fauntleroys in the Ivy League were offended. Did they gasp in shock and drop their monocles in their wine glasses as well?

Celebrations and team rivalries bordering on (or being) hatred is part of all sports. Track really isn't any kind of exception. So lets stop being a load of women and piling on Wyner for not being nice enough. I like his style and wish more trackies would leave the nice sweet humble quiet guy stereotype behind. Is he over the top? Absolutely. So is Bolt. Quit crying.

The poster above is totally correct.

Fans like to see bitter rivalries. Fans like to see people win and people defeated. Fans actually enjoy to 'hate' on people and root for others. That IS what makes sports entertaining.

I loved watching the last 50 meters of the race because it was DIFFERENT.

A runner actually showing some personality and emotion. The fans getting involved and booing instead of sitting there clapping after watching another GENERIC race.

Let's be honest. People will remember this race for years to come which can't be said for 95% of 1500meter races.

Just watched the FLotrack INTERVIEW with Wyner himself and was floored by his use of the word "like". If you removed the word "like" the 3:00 interview would have lasted 20 seconds.

And near the end he said "It is what it is" ... what is? Your display? He hadn't heard whether he was DQ'ed yet, so he wasn't talking about the DQ decision being out of his hands. So what are you talking about?

I like it when people use catch phrases in inappropriate situations. He might as well have said, "I don't know, like, maybe it's because people hate me, like, the whole Dartmouth team booed me, it's like the first like 1500 like I have ever like won in five years. You do the Math!"

That being said, he seems like a nice kid and he didn't mean disrespect (as fas as I could tell) to the others. I think what did him in (in the officials eyes) was the "bow" he took.

The official winner's son will ask him about the race in the future. We will think his father is a huge pussy for backing up the DQ and keeping the medal. He will ask his mother about it and they will agree to not mention it again, because she too thinks it's pretty weak to accept the medal. Years later Wyner will penetrate his wife and take his son to baseball games. Slippery slope!

Jimmy is one of my friends and I can't believe you guys would say this crap about him. I've heard from several people who don't actually know him at all that he is an arrogant asshole but all I've ever seen is a nice, funny, competitive, down to earth person. I've always loved people who judge other people by what they hear about them.

Ditto. Do any of the bashers here actually know Jimmy? No wonder he says everyone hates him. He's very competitive and he let that go a little overboard in this race, but he still won and I don't think he deserved a DQ.

Jimmy shouldn't have been disqualified, and the people saying he was trying to impede Tom with his gesture are lunatics.

Was the celebration classless? Debatable (I quite liked the bow).

Worth taking away his win from him? Absolutely not.

That said, the whole situation and this thread is unbelievably funny.

Wyner at least waited until he was in the lead.

Coghlann is a bit better of an interview, but the guy did way, way more at the world champs and nothing happened. He was a national hero.

Tigerfan - Do you really think Miller wanted to push down the kid who was setting the pace for him? Do you think Miller was worried that Amirault (though an excellent runner, and someone to watch in years to come) was going to go wire-to-wire on him, and so had to be eliminated? Do you think Miller thought he could just push this guy down?

On the same note - Amirault may have tripped up Miller somewhat, but it didn't look serious at all. Likewise - it's obvious that the guy wasn't somehow hoping to 'take out' Miller. Furthermore- even if he WAS, what should be done about it?! Should he be DQed? He fell down! Maybe we should just DQ Maag? Now we're getting pretty absurd...
