I was wondering about his suspicions.
If you were in Jack's position, wouldn't you also have started to go to the meets if your son's were competing?
Deep down, i don't think Jack is being a dick about this, he's just not being smart. Someone does, however, need to look into the title ix stuff thats being thrown about. My opinion is subject to change if it turns out the cutting of men's track is a big snafu to fulfill ulterior agendas

What program will be next on the chopping block? there has to be quite a few with how dept. are scalin back? If you were a top crosscountry program in the NE why would you even carry indoor track?

This thread has unfortunately strayed many times from the main point that it is ridiculous to cut OUTDOOR track. As an alum, I would be disappointed to have any season cut, but if INDOOR is cut, at least my program will be able to survive. Cutting OUTDOOR will no doubt cripple the program. Only in New England would an outdoor team be cut over an indoor team
So far we have had a page of this thread dedicated to name calling, another dedicated to classic LetsRun pessimistic posters letting everyone know that they don't care about the cut (including one guy who apparently supports cheerleading more than track???!) and most recently there has been lively discussion between a few old New Haven County coaches sharing personal stories about why they turned the coaching job down 30 years ago.
Does anyone have any ideas about the best way to state the case that OUTDOOR should be saved and INDOOR cut instead? Any U of Delaware folks out there with any advice? Letters to the president, set up a fund, petition?

Although it does seem to make sense to drop indoors instead of outdoors, indoors is a much longer season and the runners can always go to most college races and run as open runners and the Boston High Performance series events to race.
Money talks. Bucknell dropped Wrestling a few years back, one alum donated a few million, it became a club sport, I think some of his millions went to fund a female sport so the numbers would add up and wrestling is once again a varsity sport at Bucknell.
That would be a problem for them since hair dressers and truck drivers only make so much

You bring up good points, but the major problem is that Outdoor track is king in the Track and Field world, so bottom line is without Outdoor a University won't be able to recruit quality runners.
All the points you make about the ability to run unattached are the same points I would use in my argument to switch the cut to indoor. Athletes would have no problem running unattached at 2-3 high level college meets during the winter, while putting their focus on the outdoor season.

Particularly, since there are so many good indoor meets in close proximity, it would be much easier for athletes to get there to compete as opposed to having to travel further outdoors. besides, who wants to go to a school with all BUT outdoor track? Its like a peanut butter cup with no peanut butter in it.
