Is Tegenkamp Blood Doping?

Wada needs to rule on this issue and method of treatment, if deemed illegal Teg. needs to serve a suspension and fine, big fine. Take competing away from him for a year or so and maybe people trying to use the "gray area" defense might think twice after seeing what happens. Time for WADA to pull up their skirts and get serious about deterring cheats in the sport of athletics from cheating.

Did I just hear on NBC right before the start of the game that Hines Ward for the Steelers is doing the same thing that Teg is??

Just saw that Hines Ward got this exact same treatment for the superbowl. No one batted an eyelid. Of course no one cares what NFL players do really.

Why is the WADA questioning this procedure, and why does USATF have a section on this procedure on the Zero Tolerance page if there is nothing wrong? It is obvious that there is something to this, otherwise there would not be such an uproar here, and there would not be so many questions by governing bodies.

Anyone can get this treatment, so it is fair, and not unethical.

Well they announced in front of the millions of people watching the Super Bowl that Hines Ward was doing the exact same thing. Guess what, no one cared. Maybe because it isn't illegal nor is it unethical.

This is referring to HInes Ward getting the exact same treatment Teg did; I think we all jumped the gun a "little" on the post. If you did anything with platelets intravenously (blood doping) it would lead to clotting up. This treatment has nothing to do with oxygen transfer and if people did their research you would see that they remove red blood cells from the drawn blood before returning the platelets back to the body. People should do some research before dragging someone's name through the mud!

Why are they investigating it? Really? Probably because it is a relatively new technology and in order to be a prudent governing authority it is necessary to investigate all new technological advances in healing.

Can someone explain this properly?

The treatment Teg is getting done on his knee is called iontophoresis and is completely legal. No its not similar to blood doping, when an athlete blood dopes it adds more oxygen to the blood stream. If anything Teg is losing the amount of oxygen his bloodstream carries.

The nytimes article makes no mention that it doping control agencies are concerned about it. Wejo and Rojo have really made us paranoid about the subject it seems...

The article's artful phrase "growth-factor cocktail" might raise some eyebrows at WADA.
