The SJU invite took place today at 11:30 a.m. in the woods of Saint John's. A very hilly course run on gravel, sand, dirt, etc., with some hairpin turns. Chris Erichsen (SJU) set the course record in 25:25. Some speculate Tim Miles might have made it a mile short...
SJU- 28
MSU-Mankato- 28
UST- 86?
1) Erichsen (SJU) 25:25
2) Krasja (MSUM) 25:xx
3) Fermoyle (SJU) 25:45
More detailed results will be up later on the gojohnnies.com website.

has it been the same course the last several years? that sucka is brutal.
yeah, it's the same course. the weather was pretty much ideal though.
Yes it was ideal weather conditions. High 50's or so, overcast, no wind. But yeah the course is a brutal one. Miles should have full results up hopefully by the end of the day.
I had heard the womens time from someone at the SJU meet- thought it was a bit slow, so maybe they were wrong. Anyone know the top results from that race?
how does deserving a central ranking matter. whether they are ranked 6 or 12th, it doesnt matter. what matters is how they race at regionals. people put too much emphasis into being ranked, when they should only be concerned about racing well when it counts. rankings dont get you into nationals, and i think the polls are biased towards certain teams anyways.
I'm just glad to see anyone care enough about this to get in a huff about it, heh.
Yeah it's not over 'til it's over, yadda yadda. So does that mean we shouldn't pay any attention until the championships? Like any other sport, fans like to speculate and follow the progress of their teams. And sometimes it's nice to see your team's progress recognized, and counted as a factor. Others may prefer they stay a darkhorse.
I wouldn't say none of it matters, as different athletes are affected psychologically in different ways. Some are confident enough that it doesn't bother them to be beaten by rivals throughout the season when they are certain they'll peak when it counts. Others are improving so that they're performing at a new level for the first time, and need a little success to know they can challenge the front pack.
For fans, watching everything unfold is just fun. So rather than telling you to lighten up, I say bitch all you want, if that's what you consider fun ;}

Carleton also did well at their first meet -

Go to that link and then click on women's results. Margot Branigan, a sophomore for CSB, won the race by 30 seconds, setting a CSB 6k record in the process. I'm not sure how that is considered a "slow" time?
carleton ran slower on a faster course, but the weather was a bit warmer it seems in iowa. a good start to the season for both teams...
congrats to st olaf for holding off winona state, northwestern and north central. too bad that the latter two aren't from illinois or they might have something to be happy about...
If you're going to get negative, have the balls to sign your name. Otherwise, a really great post. Thanks so much.
Look at the names of the St Olaf people who ran. That's right, no Swanson, O'Neill, or Green. Put those 3 in there and Olaf beats the Tommies.
looks like olaf has a couple solid freshmen, running mid 27s in first meet. the johnnies also have a freshmen who was there 3rd runner. pretty solid

No they wouldn't. Northwestern, IL doesn't even have mens' cross country.

yeah wow, some impressive performances by all 3.
The tommies are attempting to field an primarly all mid distance squad for their cross country team. It's nice to see Atzinger back, even though there were 7 or 8 johnnies infront of them...St. thomas 7th place repeat.
I wouldn't put too much into times right now--it's cross country and it's september. Right now I think it's fairly obvious that St. John's is the best team in the MIAC if conference were tomorrow, and Carleton is second. Congrats too both teams for good early season performances, but all that matters is October 27th at Como Park and we'll find out then who is best.
Rankings and times mean nothing, everybody's just trying to get themselves ready for the big meet.
Good luck to all.

Sorry, not a slow time. I heard it was 24-25 min. That is why I asked for confirmation.
Check it out!
