Sammons was like 25th in the AZ state meet as a soph, then went on to 2 FL berths at Smoky her Junior and Senior years, as well as winning FL Midwest. Transfer or not, she improved immensely at Smoky Hill. Nice try, though.

Perhaps Sammons was 25th in AZ XC states because a certain bad habit caught up with her (she was 2nd in AZ states as a frosh, she finished 8th at Great American earlier that year 1 place behind Caitlin Lane) and perhaps her coach suggested getting help and getting better and perhaps she and parents weren't really into that and were looking for a coach who would look the other way. Perhaps they found that coach (read some of his posts about how "anorexic peaks" lead to peak performances any connection hmmm)
I would NEVER do that. More posting behind anonymous names, huh? If you want the story about any of my kids, you can find me and ask me, call me at home, whatever. But please don't make up lies about me or my program. I actually really care about my athletes. Post your name when you write from now, on. Especially since I am not even coaching at SH anymore. If you want to e-mail me, you can do so at
. Thanks for all the good comments, anyway. Plenty of great coaches out there.

Lastly, continuing to run that athlete under that scenario, as you describe it (even though you are clueless) is wrong. The coach there (under your scenario), didn't look out for the kid, either. But, that's not the story, anyway. Nice fictional post, though!
Now add up all the no-namers who continued running competitively after graduating from Smoky Hill and get a laugh out of such accusations and you've got yourself one hell of a legacy he left at SHHS. Many of his most recent FL finalists are still very early in their college careers and I don't know that I'd call a DMR National Champ and 1500m qualifier (Kaltenbach) and a multiple All-American in XC and track (Vaughn), both with plenty of NCAA eligibility left, evidence of little post-high school success.
Ray Harrington. Not only is he one of the best high school XC coaches EVER but he is the most interesting and best social studies teacher there is!! Hopefully someday he'll get the recognition he deserves.
hate to burst your bubble, but i think you're giving those coaches a little too much credit here. most athletes listed most likely made it to footlocker because they have talent, not because they were trained well and were ready to peak for the end of the season FL championship races. qualifying is only the first step. running well at finals is the prize. so if you're looking at coaches by athletes at FL then the kranicks stink. face it, they have had NO success at FL finals, aside from Erin Davis's win as a freshman and then they couldn't do anything for her after that.

One or two runners qualifying is because of talent; eight runners qualifying a total of 15 times is because of coaching. Sorry the Kranicks are more successful than you but maybe you shoiuld just get over it. They are the best coaches in the nation, along with Joe Newton. Your post is so full of uneducated statements I don't even know where to begin.
Oh, by the way, I find it funny that you bump a thread from August just so you can throw out another insult at Saratoga's coaches. That is pathetic ... simply pathetic.
Bob Timmons' teams at Wichita East won many state championships in swimming, cross country and track.
Regarding dress codes, everyone on his teams wore suits when they went to dinner on trips.
This was from the mid 1950's.
Perhaps he was a role model for some of these others mentioned here who came later.

Jealous?
Actually you are wrong! Girls won in 2001, now is that over 10 years ago?....and where did you go to school? New Prairie? Well that explains it. Oh by the way, boys won in 1996....is that over 10 years?....I think not, but then again I went to a real high school!
Now it has officially been 10 years since the Carmel boys have won a state championship.

Neville Paul - Wellington College, New Zealand (Its a high school).
He played a major part in most of these school records between 1990-2003.
http://acoach.net.nz/Records/AthleticsRecords.htm
He mainly coached cross country and had multiple national high school champs and the most consistent national winning cross country teams.
With a record like that he must be the best. He is also the funniest coach youll ever have.
High School coaches suspended for violating rules.

Discuss.
These types of rules are being violated year in and year out in New York State. Perhaps this will get the ball rolling and other states will do some serious investigating as well. There should be a clear message sent to certain coaches that violate such rules, especially the ones that hold mandatory practices 7 days a week.

Coach Jensen brought out the best in his athletes, an example to follow both on the sporting field and in their lives. His inspiration got me through a war, and remains with me today. If illuminating lives in the direction they SHOULD take is the mark of a "sucessful" coach, then Coach Jensen is a contender for the title. A truely great man!
I have to laugh when all these accolades of state championships get thrown around. I doubt any of these schools aside from mead & york from these smaller states would even finish in the top 10 in ca or ny.
