Those of you who have followed over the past couple of years will know I’ve been struggling with my achilles. A persistent and very specific injury that forced me to miss a lot of training and racing. Around 2 weeks ago, the achilles flared up again and we finally took the decision to travel to America for surgery. This is of course not something to be taken lightly but absolutely the right thing for the longevity of my career. The surgery went very smoothly and I’m relieved to have a clear path of recovery back to the start line after many months of uncertainty.
There is no such thing as a clear path to recovery post achilles surgery. That's nonsense. If I didn't read this wrongly, there seems to be somebody intentionally making Jakob injured in the achilles all the time. I don't want to name names but it's quite obvious who that mugger is. It has a 3-letter name.
He now returns to Sandnes and thinks all is fine, and then I guarantee 6 months later, he goes on instagram again and says "sorry my injury achilles flared up yet again and this time I've decided to hang up my spikes and become a good father".
I'm feeling sorry for the guy. Achilles injuries are often career-ending. It's hard to see a runner coming back from this.
First upvote of an Armstronglivs post I have ever done xDD
I got an achilles injury 5 years ago right after hitting 1530 5k. Have not been able to train much or race since. Maybe need to see Jakob's surgeon if his surgery works out for him.
Three months until he can start with something that can be seen as real training, according to the doctor for the norwegian national team. So there wont be enough time to go for a fast time at Bislett. And without a fully fit Jakob, Almgren will have a shot at double european golds in the 5000m and 10000m.
Friidrettsstjernen la ut bilde av seg selv i rullestol - etter en operasjon i USA. Det er fremdeles usikkert når friidrettsstjernen kan konkurrere igjen.

Jakob's 1500m career is effectively over. He already wasn't a speedy guy to begin with and now will definitely lose some more of the sharpness. I hope he will make a good comeback in 10k though.
Regenerative sleep is essential for recovering from hard training sessions. Having a baby crying in the night does not bode well with trying to get the WR.

Why would he skip the 5000m and move all the way up 10000? He’s won one Olympic Gold and two WC Golds at the distance.
Being woken up for about 10 minutes by a crying baby does not affect recovery.

Because 5k is intensive enough to stress and injure achilles again.
Being woken up for about 10min multiple times per night every night for months very much affects recovery. You underestimate babies and underestimate importance of sleep. Not getting enough sleep chronically even shortens your lifespan.
I thought socialist healthcare was the best in the world. Why would someone leave the superior Norwegian system to get healthcare in the US?
Why in the world do you need to bring that sh*t up you idiot? Maybe it’s just because (sample set of) ONE guy which happens to be best at it is here, and which would have absolutely NOTHING to do with the OVERALL quality, affordability, and availability of health care in a national system. Dumba**.

Didn’t affect Drew Hunter. Jakob probably has a night nurse.

The 5000m being 2.5 seconds per lap faster is more stressful to the point of creating a higher chance of injuries? It’s also half the distance.
He can sleep in an extra hour in the morning, or take naps during the day, to get as much total sleep as he wants.
If only the procedure had been a week earlier Jakob could have joined the meetup for Millrose at the bar in San Francisco and it would have been peak Letsrun.
