With Hocker and Nuguse failing to make the US team for the indoor 1500m, and a few others nursing injuries at this time of year (Kessler, Jakob), does anyone else think it is a poor decision by Cam Myers to skip World Indoors? Surely he is well placed to challenge for medals in either the 1500m and 3000m, or both.
While immensely talented, I truly think Cam needs more experience at championship racing. He missed selected for Paris (rightly or wrongly), skipped World Indoors in Nanjing, and then out in the first round in Tokyo last year.
I know he has Maurie Plant as the big Aussie drawcard, but he could probably still win that easily after competing at World Indoors. Outside of the Aussies, there might be 1-2 2nd tier Europeans or Africans participating at Maurie Plant.
He really needs to be fronting up to these global champs as a youngster...I don't think he has earned the right to skip these events, as you might expect from a more seasoned injury prone champion, like a Jake Wightman.
And this is why Jessica Hull is such an amazing Australian sports person. Fronts up to all competition around the world, races hard, collecting medals and records. She will be at World Indoors.
Anyway, just my 2 cents. I want to see Aussies competing and winning medals. Thoughts?
