Until I think WSU will qualify as a team, I don't care. But if I had to guess Longisa would be in the group with Chamberlain and Cheptoo maybe 50-60. Looks iffy to me at this point but maybe they can
They are #4 in the west region but #27 in the coach’s poll, so there is a chance they can enter the nationals as an at large team. The mountain region is brutal. Feeling bad for Colorado and NAU.
Given that Oregon as barely run and their form somewhat unknown, and the fact the Florida has not yet sorted out its #5, you have to add Notre Dame into the mix for a a podium spot. If they fire on all cylinders or improve a bit they will be very much in the mix.

yes, but the 2 key OR runners we have not seen were both in Tokyo running the 1500.....

You seem to be a ND insider or a fan, at least. It may have mentioned somewhere in this forum but I didn't see it. What happened to Siona Chisholm at Nuttycombe? She faded badly after being up with the leaders and they DNF'd.

I was thinking about that too. ND is definitely on the rise. They have good depth, and their top three may be as good as anyone else in the country.

Good point. They are clearly an elite team but it is hard to accurately gauge their level without recent performances. Their top three are clearly very good, but from there back it is harder to judge.

I don't agree on this. I have no idea where (if) Chisolm will finish in a race, but assume she splits Aramini and Dalton. I still think BYU, NC St and OR top 3 are much better and will in total score 20-30 points less than ND top 3. They still have a 30 s gap from 3 to 4 so their 4/5 look to score over 50 each. Should FL's 5th finish way back, OR's back end also disappoints and NM fails to materialize then ND has a shot for 3rd I guess.

I am more betting on their upward trajectory than the current results. Plus I got this from AI when I ask “Is Notre Dame women’s cross country a title contender this year?”
Yes, the Notre Dame women's cross country team is considered a title contender for the 2025 NCAA championship . The team recently proved its elite status with a second-place finish at the highly competitive Nuttycombe Invitational, defeating several other top-ranked programs. Notre Dame's 2025 championship prospects Top-ten national ranking: The team is ranked inside the top 10 of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national coaches' poll. Depth of talent: Their success is built on the performance of their entire lineup. At the Nuttycombe Invitational, Notre Dame's top two runners placed in the top 10, and their top five all finished within the top 50. Regional favorite: The team is ranked first in the Great Lakes Region and is a strong candidate for an automatic bid to the national championships. Primary competition: The biggest obstacles on the path to a national title include BYU, NC State, Florida, and Oregon, all of whom have held high national rankings this season. NC State specifically dominated the Nuttycombe Invitational, beating Notre Dame by over 80 points. Key individual runners Mary Bonner Dalton (Sophomore): Finished fourth at the Nuttycombe Invitational with a sub-20-minute time. Amaya Aramini (Freshman): Placed eighth at the Nuttycombe Invitational, also with a sub-20-minute performance. The 2025 NCAA DI Cross Country Championships are scheduled for Saturday, November 22, in Columbia, Missouri.

ND were almost dismissed going into Nuttycombe and then produced a very strong result beating NM pretty handily, albeit without their top star. Much of this is about residual reputation and people just aren't calibrated yet to seeing two relatively unknown ND runners in the top 10 at Nuttycombe.
Florida's #5 is very much up in the air and the form of many on Oregon's team is unknown at this point. Thus, ND is very much in podium contention assuming they can improve slightly, or all can hit on the same day. This is a very consistent team and their 5th is not going to score in the 80's-100 which is a possibility for NM, Oregon and Florida. But, of course, Colorado is also a contender as is NAU with a full roster. Things rarely go to plan and outside the clear favorites of BYU and N.C. State (with N.C. a strong favorite) I think it is all up for grabs.
Thank you for being a voice of reason on this. If only the Top 3 scored at NCAAs, without injuries across multiple programs, I just don’t see ND being in the Top 5.
I do think ND could find themselves on the podium in the next couple years as their 2025 recruiting class matures and develops, but BYU and NC State are stacked for the foreseeable future and the recruiting of Kenyans isn’t slowing down.

The top 5 score which is why depth matters and a dismal result in the 5th spot can sink a team performance. Look at Georgetown at Nuttycombe. The 5th spot is going to plague Florida and Oregon and this is what could push them out of contention.

Agree. Even the Alabama top 3--Lemngole, Tuwei, Kiplagat/Jemutai--could score lower than the ND trio.
Agree coaches will keep BYU at #1, as they do not go into as much detail as this thread does.
I disagree that teams peak at nats. They try to, and that is the coaching plan. What happens, however, is usually one team runs real well, and 2-3 other top contenders run awful at nats.
So simulation nice, but race will end up different.
Big news from weekend is Hedengren making strong debut as a title contender. For NC State it's Napolèon confirming she will be good in xc, not just steeple. This strengthens both leading contenders.
I agree BYU will likely be ranked 1st, but I think it will no longer be unanimous.
Well once again I was wrong. BYU remains unanimous #1. Looks like NC St unanimous #2

In 2024, Laurie Henes was surprised to see her rebuilding team ranked #1 in both preseason and early season polls. Within the tight-knit coaching community, rankings often reflect reputation and mutual respect more than on-the-ground performance. While journalists might offer a more results-driven perspective, cross country simply doesn’t draw enough attention to garner serious coverage from outlets like the AP.

This is the ChatGPT answer. My answer is that coaches are intimidated by the dark sunglasses, loose jacket, and loud voice.
