Oldfield, a true legend, the only man who could dunk a shot put
his movie would be a lot like the pre movies, except he lives in the end. they both end up with no medals. (don't know how you deal with his drug use though)
The TV movie about Roger Bannister and the 4 minute mile chase is actually pretty good. I used to have a copy of it and watched it several times. John Landy and Percy Cerutty were also portrayed in the movie.

Reading about Dwayne Johnson ('the Rock') being tipped for an oscar for his portrayal of an MMA fighter from the early days (Mark Kerr) got me wondering if any famous (or not so famous) runner deserves a Hollywood movie.
Obviously the Eric Liddell and Harold Abrahams story has been done in the 80's and had a lot of success. A recent movie about Zatopek was a big blockbuster in the Czech Republic but didn't really register anywhere else (it was in Czech).
There was going to be a movie about the Coe/Ovett rivalry to co-incide with the London Olympics, with Daniel Radcliffe of Harry Potter to play Coe, but it was never made (I think Ovett didn't like the idea - probably feared he would be portrayed as the 'bad guy').
But I don't think Hollywood itself has ever made a blockbuster running movie.
Note that the Mark Kerr film doesn't skip his ped abuse, so any movie about, say, Kipchoge, would have to include his likely EPO use, or at least acknowledge the problem in Kenya.

Chris Lear and a collection of well respected authors and journalists should retrace the path of Olympians Bob Kennedy, Tim Broe, Ryan Hall, Dathan Ritzenhein, Alan Webb, Galen Rupp, Jenny Simpson, Matt Centrowitz, Emma Coburn, Molly Seidel, Grant Fisher, Cole Hocker, Yared Nuguse, Hobbs Kessler, et al.
Chronicle the variations in up bringing, life routines, training, character, etc. Build the narrative for each in the first half and in the second half tell about the Olympic journey, both triumph and defeat. Find look alikes from within the current community for scenes (hint: you may identify potential Olympians).
Could do the six decades: 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s, 20s
What story is there to tell there? Those are basically all the same people with the same story arc. Outstanding HS runners, that were outstanding college runners, that were then outstanding pro runners.
I hated the ending but On the Edge with Bruce Dean as an outlaw runner due to AAU restrictions trains and runs the Dipsea Race is a great running movie. Helps that Bruce Dern was a rebel that lost his spot on the University of Pennsylvania's track & field team for being a noncomformist in the late 50s.
I think a lot of the suggestions are barking up the wrong tree. Somethings you could aim for are quirky narratives, David-v-Goliath struggles. Hard-luck stories. So maybe a Gerry Lindgren movie.
Not sure why I haven't seen Usain Bolt mentioned yet. Grew up in poverty in rural Jamaica to become the greatest sprinter of all time.
Ryan Hall would be one of the only plots that mainstream non running movie goers would buy tickets to watch that I can think of
Relatable story line, with an all American vibe, attractive wife, jock life, body dys morphia, god fearing, adoption family, turns his body image around by extreme weightlifting.
Has a lot to lend to Hollywood magic and casting
Whoever said Suzy Hamilton is right too.

Maybe, but who could play Usain Bolt except Usain Bolt?

Bolt is the obvious choice
The Sifan Hassan story would be a great choice
A film about Rob Young, Mike Rossi, Kelly Agnew, Will Goodge would be highly entertaining
Rossi
Houlihan
There should be a movie about the 1904 Olympic Marathon. It would be the most ridiculous running movie ever made!
Lon Spurrier
Sorry. Lon Myers. Not Spurrier.
I think a movie about Dr. Frank Meza could be pretty interesting.
think about it.
you have the networks cover track and field, and what do you get? moronic nonsense.
hollywood is a mixed bag with gems and turds. and it is mostly turds steaming hot.
if mel gibson directed it, maybe it would be something to associate with.
disney? it will be something most of us would wish we never were born.
right now, over all, you deserve to avoid holywood .
a simple legacy, in this small niche, no bugles no drums, is so much better than fancy BS, which it is.
How about Kip Litton?
also, apparently he passed away earlier this year.
