The drug argument needs to go back a few years, because when Cooper was 14 he ran one of the fastest 400m times ever in the US for his age (48.7, less than one second slower than Quincy Wilson's age group record). He also crushed the nation's middle schoolers in the 800 meters, meaning that he had both elite speed and elite strength.
That's the profile of a kid who could become a very special 800m runner. So, I think if the argument is that he couldn't do this performance clean, the argument implicitly is saying that he was doping as an 8th grader.
I agree with you. I also think this logic should be applied to Kenyan runners - that is, many of them are absolutely crushing it from a very young age, so even though many of them are no doubt doping, how many of them exactly do we honestly think are on the sauce at 11 in Eldoret?
i don't know what he may or may not be on but hells bells. is it different then Symmonds dropping 142 in '12? i mean 13 years later. Santa Monica Johnny Gray dropped 142 in '85
American distance running is hotter than Bill Ponderosa on bath salts right now
You’re seeing a kid who would be a state champ short sprinter in a most any smallish state but whoever his coach is knew he’d never be elite there and moved him up. Sprinters are just better athletes.
He was the fastest 400m soph in the country this year, running a time that was roughly equal to what Michael Johnson and Michael Norman did as sophs. And he posted that time on the second race of a double, after he had run a 1:47 flat 800 meters.
James Edwin "Ted" Meredith (November 14, 1891 – November 2, 1957) was an American athlete, winner of two gold medals at the 1912 Summer Olympics. Biography Meredith made the 1912 Olympic team shortly after his graduation from...
The effects of a warmup can last several hours. He did his first warmup then knowing that the champs call up protocol can be disruptive, lead to lack of focus etc.
faster than the ncaa record by a whole second, genuinely might be the most impressive feat in all of high school athletics. move over Ryun
Ryun set an AR in HS. Ease up Timmy.
Mondo's high school record of 6.05m is still the greatest HS mark (not adjusting for inflation)... For now. Cooper has 2 more years to top it (6.05m equals 1:41.45)
Not sure if this was brought up anywhere in the 20 Lutkenhaus threads (or even this one), but who is his coach? Some HS coach who now needs to have a 1:42.2 guy progress for the next couple of years without blowing his hamstrings? Tough job.
I have hardly seen a thread on Letsrun that makes me so disgusted with the sheer number of insecure, jealous losers. It's pretty transparent to me actually that insecurity and jealousy are what's driving all these guys whining about doping.
It is not uncommon for people to have a difficulty time accepting that extraordinary talents exist, the presence of talent makes some people feel worse about themselves instead of amazed.
I think it's mostly because the people who get offended have some kind of narcissistic delusion going on that is somehow being threatened.

Um, cooper L. just ran faster than any American in history had run prior to late twenty twenty four. He is currently just a half second off the american record. As a HS SOPHMORE!
Yes, that is as good as or better than Jim Ryun....Timmy.
