The concentration she is quoted as having had does not align at all with standard prescribed dosage. There is no way she would show that level in her system as part of routine therapeutic use. Also, although you cannot diagnose from sight, I would be shocked to learn she had hypertension.
and who do we know that got an intravenous dose of l-carnitine and briefly forgot about it and then remembered within the same short period???????
Wait, what? A little off-topic, I guess, but are there any recommended deep-dives about everything that actually went down with the NOP investigations? I know there was a bunch of stuff coming out live as it happened, but I was paying less attention to the track world and was mostly just aware there were a lot of allegations about shady stuff going on—totally missed the l-carnitine injections. I don’t mind catching up on my own, but I’m curious whether there are any landmark articles (or even books) to start with.
I love how the report said that the threshold for HCTZ was 20 ng/mL at the bottom and then they said hers was 3800. That's like 200 times the amount. You have to wonder what she was hiding.
I can tell you why. I mentioned this earlier but I guarantee you she was on the AIU watch/target list and they had someone following her. Remember a while ago when Rojo/Wejo posted a job from WA/AIU on the front page of the website? It was for AIU surveillance coordination, aka formulating strategies to get intel on when to test these targeted athletes.
What I would strongly guess happened here is that someone was there around her, was like " tomorrow is the time to test her" but then as with anything there was some kind of intel leak which of course doesn't change anything BUT it sends her into a panic as to how the f--k she's going to try and get around this. So what do you do? Get your hands on as much diuretic/masking agent and take as much as you can before your test hoping for the best (which is that it somehow clears in time) and expecting the worst (it doesn't). But hey at least you only get popped for the diuretic and not what you are really taking which might lift the lid on something else completely and ruin a lot of other athletes "plans".
I'd feel quite "confident" this is close to what happened here.
I think this is a valid take. I wonder if another measure is to simply make agents pay heavily. Imagine if Rosa now paid a massive fine that financially ramped up targeted testing of his best athletes. Think he might take closer order of his athletes then?
How about we just imagine that these scumbag agents that have abused desperate east african athletes in particular for the last 25-30 years (Rosa, Demadonna, Corstjens, Mostaza, et al) just had their licenses revoked? Throw in a few coaches like that crook Canova that everybody thought was awesome for like 5 years because he posted the training plans of his doped Kenyans and tried to convince us that because they were born at altitude EPO was useless to them. Why don't we start there.
tbh, if a normal (and clean) athlete really follows his plans, chances are they would get overtrained in no time. Those special blocks are insane. And I also remember reading Sheleen (the old steeplechase WR holder) did a 40k long run at 5:10-20 pace. I call BS on that one.

She probably has a potassium now of 2.0. Honestly, she better get her electrolytes checked. She needs to be banned and record expunged, but not die from a fatal arrhythmia.
Shut up. Rojo called out an obvious cheater and got lambasted for it. Now that the obvious has been uncovered, he is asking for a deserved apology. Stop being a baby and get off the Rojo hate bandwagon.
We were all just supposed to pretend like a 2:09 marathoner not breaking 32 minutes for 10k was normal. If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck.
Like Wanyonyi? Like Koech? Like Kipy....
oh no wait, it's only the "crappy" ones that cheat right? The ones desperate to get up to the "level" of their elite countrymen and women.
What I want to know is how World Athletics still has agents like Frederico Rosa accredited given the volume of doping related sh-t his athletes have been involved in now for literally decades.
Well said. And keep in mind that Rosa dropped the coach of Wanyonyi and Koech because the number of doping busts was too much even for him to want to be associated with.
Just wait until rekrunner starts "explaining" her positive test, and whining about the "advantages" the mean AIU has over the poor dopers. Rojo will be sorry.
If I respond to your trolling, will you turn around and call me the troll?
Athletes testing positive for diuretics doesn't mean the balance of justice is not tipped against innocent and guilty athletes alike.
The large concentration here of 3800 ng/mL doesn't seem ambiguous, unlike other anti-doping cases, involving low amounts.
I'll be watching this thread though for scientific links how HCTZ is considered a PED for the women's marathon, and how such a large concentration on April 3rd this year can be linked to previous performances.
I'll be watching with more interest if they can identify any enablers exploiting Kenyan athletes.
Should you not be awaiting the news on almost all of the elites, including Jakob, the top 800 guys, Kiplimo, Hull etc? You might have a long wait my friend.

Everyone at the top is doing it. You think Jakob, Hocker, and even Wightman are possibly clean? Don't be naive.

Hi Jeff. Another really meaningful contribution from you. Wightman is definitely as doped as Ruth. Sure.
And to think that if she had tragically died in a road accident like Kiptum, she would have been cannonized as a saint and the most talented runner every, with anybody claiming she doped getting banned here.
