Depends on the event group but typically it’s the students local state universities, where they may get a roster spot and cheap/free tuition based on grades and being in state. We get a lot of interest from CA, TX, GA, FL, etc. who have plenty of good options there academically and athletically.
Or there’s also pressure from mid tier private school programs who have similar athletic programs but would offer partial scholarships and sweeten the deal. Big East schools are popular, some ACCs too. We had two XC recruits recently come down to us and Northwestern as an example.
And then their local mid major conferences too. We get a lot of kids from the East coast looking at Patriot league, A10, etc.
Not the same point you were asking about but our B or C level recruits are almost always looking at Ivy as the reach and D3s as the bulk. So we often get really solid recruits pulled away early because NESCAC schools and others will offer them very early with very early deadlines. It’s a fine line in the Ivy between great D3 academic options and great D1 financial options. We’re really threading the needle between those worlds.
